Ideas for monetizing my Anime site?

So I created an anime site about 2 years ago because I was anticipating it to blow up like Pokemon or Naruto. Unfortunately this series has not transitioned from Japan to US very well, I think it's because the anime market is now saturated with other series. However the site that I have now gets pretty good traffic because it has a bunch of videos and a forum. It also ranks #3 in Google, just behind Wikipedia.

I am running Adsense and an Ebay shop. The revenue combined barely pays for hosting. The question I have is "how the hell do I effectively monetize this thing?"

Here are my high level stats in the past month:

  • 13,910 Visits

  • 102,622 Pageviews

  • 7.38 Pages/Visit

  • 31.94% Bounce Rate

  • 00:07:20 Avg. Time on Site

  • 32.00% % New Visits

That's a good idea. I will give that a try.

One thing I've noticed is that the most active members on my site don't have credit cards.

In Japan, this anime is so popular that the fan base ranges from preteens to grandmothers. There's like a huge cult following, it's like the latest Hello Kitty. Too bad it hasn't exploded in the US.

"Spicy or Sweet" and "Finding Singles" both offer landers with Asian chicks. Both are free signup, no cc.

FS only pays out for ages 25+ but has higher payout. Both have converted well for me in the past.
 
Wow, you guys suggesting dating ads don't actually know any Wapanese, do you?

Otaku think they want girlfriends, but they don't actually, so the dating ads are doomed to failure.
What they want is hug pillows of anime chicks, figurines to jerk off to, and maybe some Japanese-esque fleshlight type toys like a Tenga.

By all means, stick a dating ad up, but you might want to try a rotating banner that includes

  • Jlist, specifically it's adult toys
  • Play-Asia, particularly the hentai games
  • Crunchyroll
  • Some sort of "zomg! download heaps of anime" bullshit site... it's amazing and sad at how well those do
  • Costume sites (don't sell often, but when they do, the payout's good)
  • Learn Japanese programs.

Interesting you mentioned the Learn Japanese program... someone has been renting a text link on my site through text-link-ads to promote the language.

Thanks for sharing, would be interesting to apply it to other niches. I couldn't help but chuckle while reading " I determined that guys who are heavily into sci-fi, anime, RPGs, and martial arts are also heavily into asian girls." It totally describes a couple of my friends who married asian chicks. lol
