If you had $1000.

if you can't code do your research, design how you want things to look, hire a programmer, get a nice site set up - and run with it...

I'd spend it all on research and development. Most of the stuff you can get for free then hold onto that 1k till you absolutely need it. Get the essentials, website, domain, hosting, etc..but figure out most cost effective ways to use.

Yeah, I would go the PPC route as well, and if that works out to be profitable I would then start to develop some sites for the niche.

PPC to CPA
Honestly though I burned through $3k before learning how to make a profitable ppc campaign. God damn ringtones.

haha ringtones = death for so many.

So true, so true. I just call it 'my education' now, for me 'ppc school' cost $1k a month. :D

What you read in affiliate blogs and forums is just 1% of the story, it's the 'Table of Contents' to affiliate marketing. The rest you have to make up for yourself, run campaigns, research keywords, test landing pages and ad copy, and spend spend spend! There's no wrong place to start in affiliate marketing, but stopping before you learn anything would be a waste.

The problem for some of us is that we don't have expendable income.

Buy 3 oz of green buds and get some ideas = $900

spend the last $100 bucks or so for a domain and hosting and PPC if you loose you still got stoned!

the buds will get you there!

what would i do?

if i had a $1,000.
well as an affiliate i would join SAS, CJ and LS
then i would find a very small niche oriented merchant thta has a good record, good epc, an an active affiliate manager
then join the program, go join Elance and have someone build me a kick ass site.
then start seo

Then take the remaining money and buy beer

Yeah definately PPC

No point in buying a website, any site making a decent monthly revenue is going to cost a lot more than a grand

Yeah apparently nobody reads Jon's blog here. I guess it depends on how quickly you want to earn a profit. If you are going for get rich quick, you run a much bigger risk to reward ratio. Read: You probably won't like the final results.

If you want something more long term, I'd go for $400 in niche domains (research and lots of time required) and play the power in numbers game. This will result in no profit for quite some time but then you'll start seeing profits after six months using the techniques Jon has already given you on his blog.

Many have suggested PPC, however, there's a learning curve that will probably blow through your cash with either a break-even scenario or loss (until you learn with testing).

Unless you are awesome about thinking outside of the box, AVOID POPULAR AFFILIATE PROGRAMS!!!!!!!! Seriously, if you can't be REAL creative about selling rap ringtones, hosting, gambling, debt, and others, your 1k will be gone in a flash and a pile of frustration.

Lastly, expect more stress, more hours working, more frustrations, and a LOT of learning compared to a 9-5 "be your boss' bitch" job.
