If you were totally broke or just making enough to get by you wouldn't have the funds to get started (like hosting, etc...) It's been a long time since I've been in this boat and I'm trying to help some newer folks get going from scratch.

I've got the web 2.0 bit down (hub pages, blogger, squidoo), and enough to help a newbie get off the ground in these areas.

What else? Seems I usually throw money at something or use some paid tools with just about every project or network I launch...... hard to pretend I don't have that option :)

I would try doing some SEO to affiliate offers and adsense if your broke. I've been at it for about 3-4 months and I'm starting to see a little cash trickle in. It takes a shitload of time to do the offsite work if you don't have tools. I don't know of anyway to get around hosting and a domain though. But what does that take - like $25 bucks to get started?

I do fairly well converting from places like squidoo and blogger. If I was starting out that's where I would start if I had nothing.

Your stuck for things to promote though - third party affiliate programs and the like till you get a site or have enough to start doing PPC.

I agree though - hosting is peanuts these days, but some people REALLY don't have it.

I would spend a week or two writing REALLY cheap articles for webmasters (and a lot of them) so that I could then spend that money on ppc.

Getting that extra cash is highly possible provided you're willing to do what it takes. Stuff like selling your tv or something. Unless you're saying that they don't have a computer and an internet connection.

Probably the biggest barrier isn't the funds but the time. If you have the time to learn, practice, try stuff out, then it'll be tempting to use that time for an additional job (night job, 3rd job) that is sure to pay (although little) rather than jump into something that has a small chance of failing. Adding the problem that you might not see the return on investment anytime soon...

That's the same answer I gave in the Newbie section. If you've got nothing, the quickest way to make enough scratch to get started is by writing articles for webmasters.

You can make a three or four hundred dollars in a couple weeks of hard work, and then use that cash to get a few domains, a decent hosting package, and some ppc going.
