The article says they were really just a matchmaking service, that all they did was match up women with sperm donors. The women had to negotiate payment directly with the donor and arrange for any medical tests of the donated sperm. They didn't do any of the icky stuff. So it's not as if they were really slanging anything that innovative, just another niche matchmaking service.
