So I'm going on this date tonight with this girl I've never met (we were set up). Spoke to her on the phone a few times, she seems cool. But alas she has NO IDEA what I do for a living. So since that topic is out of the question aside for my answer of "I do marketing online.. no, not porn [anymore], no thats not me spamming your inbox." She works in fashion PR, something I have no concept of either.

What else should we talk about?

Post some topics and I'll pick one normal one and one insane one, and I'll let you know at the end of the night if the date went well or not. Hell, I may even get her to join and tell you herself, if she's that cool.

I have to be there at 8:30pm EST and my driver says it will take at least 20 mins to get there, so make it snappy!
 


She didn't sound like a hockey fan, already tried that. She's from Boston, so baseball is probably not a good topic either.
 
I dunno what kind of dates you've been on, but the ones I've been on, girls don't like being told they are fat or need to lose weight.
 
Explain to her how you are the creator of a huge forum and well respected member of a huge online industry. That puts you instantly (not necessarily on a conscious level) at alpha male status. (this step without bragging, simply infodumping)

Explain affiliate marketing like "ad guys" on the net.

Stop the affiliate talk at 15 mins max. :)

Then you have to show your interest for her (try to make it sincere) and remember whatever she says. Ask for more info on the topics she discusses. Ask her how her work is, how her life is, how they treat her etc.
 
Yeah, there's no reason you can't talk about what you do to make money. Just not details she wouldn't understand. You could explain the basic concept of affiliate marketing, describe what your average day is like, etc.

Then make sure you talk about her, not yourself to much. Ask her generic questions and go into more details if she seems interested in talking about it. her job, her hobbies, family, goals, etc.
 
TV shows and celebrity gossip should be a lengthy and interesting conversation(to her)
 
I kinda want to stay off of business related topics. She's kind of a big deal in her industry too, except she deals with famous people everyday, and I deal with you guys. Haha!

But seriously, lets keep the topics about business as a lightly thing mentioned, and go back to things that will keep it going.

The last date I went on sucked and the chick was like a borderline retarded person, who sat there making weird noises and had no concept of anything I tried talking to her with.

I can talk to anyone about anything, so I want to make sure this one goes well. She sounds pretty cool and laid back so let's hope its a winner.

Keep the topics coming in, this is good stuff.
 
Right out of the gate point out to her that she has a piece of skin or something hanging off her nose and then brush it off for her. This way you have immediately pointed out a flaw in her appearance and gallantly remedied the situation. She will become so self consious of her nose that you will own the rest of the night. However, if you start losing ground discussing the new Harry Potter book or something, then perhaps once you are both back in the car you might reach for the strategically hidden ziploc bag containing a chloroform-soaked rag and then see what happens.
