I started one of those sites with affiliate links for cool shit for sale. This is day 1 of being live running an ad campaign on reddit.com ($30 general for 2 days, $30 to /r/shutupandtakemymoney for 1 day). After 2/3 of the day already, I have 120k+ impressions, and only 99 clicks (0.082% click-through), and 0 sales.

I'm guessing Reddit may not be the best place to advertise this sort of site. Does anyone have any suggestions or input on where might be the best place to advertise my site? Am I just beating a dead horse? Should I try my hand at focusing on a more niche/hobby audience with this sort of stuff?

Thanks, guys! :tongue2:

dont advertise on redit.

^ This.

Redditors are poor and won't buy your shit.

Also they're skeptical of any type of advertisement, period.

I'd try to create some kind of angle if I were to try to sell shit to Redditors, i.e. "hey guys I made these hand-knitted sweaters for my cat, want to buy one and help support XYZ stupid fucking charity?"

If you can inflate their ego and make them feel smart they'll hand over what little $ they have.

Sweet domain + site btw, is that a script or what?

Also, Redditors will see you as a very obvious clone of thisiswhyimbroke.com. You aren't doing yourself any favors winning their loyalty.

I found your ad.

Check out awesome stuff to buy at HowToGoBroke.com - Offering You The Best of The Interwebs!

Not exactly inspiring or particularly catchy.

Very good points.

I programmed everything myself from scratch using LAMP and memcache. I've been a developer over 6 years. As you can see, I'm adept as a programmer and IT dude, but I lack in marketing. Marketing has always been my bane. I want to change that, and I hope the wickedfire community can help me in that regard.

Yeah, that's what I feared. However, I've found multiple other sites that are rip-offs of thisiswhyimbroke.com, and they have thousands of FB likes and are probably making some good cash.

Yeah. I feel embarrassed about that. I half-assed it, and it's my fault. My friend came up with some good 1-liners for the ad, but it was too late. :(

wow you've got some cool stuff there lol..I'd recommend signing up for a nextag/shopping.com merchant instead though..

Thanks for the info. I'll check them out.

Then sell the script and get fucking rich, way easier.

So many people would pay at least $100 for that, guaranteed (as long as they can easily plug in their affiliate IDs from a backend or something).

lol That's not a bad idea either. Perhaps I will.

I still would like to get better with marketing. I'm going to try to do more research on finding a good market to advertise my site to.

I kinda wanna buy some of this shit.

Site is not half bad, but why advertise?

Make up some accounts, and post the relevant shit in the relevant areas / subreddits.
I know there are some things that would go over well in gaming or parenting or wherever.
