TL;DR: I need an image for a postcard that will be passed under dorm room doors that is intriguing enough for people to want to visit the domain, which will be the only thing on the flipside.
I'm starting a website and launching it initially within my campus. To do this I thought I would get invitations printed and pass them under every dorm room door and then they would read it thinking they were invited personally to the site on some degree and then explain on the invite a bit about the site the same way you would give details about a party.
But now my idea is instead to get postcards made up. One one side I'll print an image that is either shocking/confusing/quirky that makes you want to pick up the card slid under your door and then when you flip it over to figure out what the hell it's about it's just "domain.com."
So the image needs to be something that they "just gotta know" more about and they'll visit the domain.
And then, on the website, I'll have posted a video on the homepage that before being played the preview image is that same postcard. So they visit site, see the same postcard, click video to learn more.
Then the video will be me pulling the card away from the camera and right now all my plan is to toss it aside and be like, "That was weird, huh?" and then go on to introduce the website as it will proceed.
The site is a community based site so I really want to draw in as many people and get the message out to them and this to me is the way to proceed. But I need some suggestions on what kind of image to use for this kind of thing.
Also I wouldnt mind some suggestions on where to get it printed, I've found some pretty inexpensive solutions via Google, but if you've done similar and can speak to quality of product. I need like 5,000-10,000 cards for under $1,000. Which is more than doable from the quotes I've gotten.
Here are some of my ideas:
This image is so well known that I don't think I'll use it. I'm thinking something more surreal or confusing that makes them want to know more. This is definitely shocking though. And the site will be discussion about world suck.
I like this one as it is more obscure and weird and I would certainly want to know why the hell someone passed this under my door.
This one would make me freaked if I stumbled upon it on ground.
This one is odd and college age ish
