Inexpensive VPS/Dedi with lots of storage

My current project doesn't require a ton of CPU or RAM but will require a ton of storage. The more the better, 1-2TB would be nice to start.

But I'd like to keep the cost low until I prove it is going to take off and make some money. So, any suggestions for an inexpensive VPS or dedicated host with big disk options?

At Critical.net We offer VPS starting at $20.00 per month.. give us a look.. It would be a great solution for you to get your ball rolling, we are easily able to scale you up as your needs change.

Send me an email and I'll get you rolling. Check Signature for email..

you're way over paying if you want to use the vps/dedi for this amount of storage.

What you need is a little php and amazon s3

They've got an api that makes writing to the bucket, and pulling from it, a snap. You get the added benefit of never having to worry about file serving slowing down your vps (because believe me, it can). S3 buckets are handy for storing js/css offsite too.

amazon ++

EDIT: Leaving above to show I'm a hack and didn't do the math ... +1TB of info > $100 .... ignore me, but I'm leaving the info in case someone else finds it useful. Sorry i couldn't help

:) I have the same question as thread starter but i still coundn't find in any of you guys post. Anymore could be helpful. I don't need that much storage.

How much storage do you need?

The thing is, finding a VPS provider who can put that much storage on the table is tricky.

For my own hosting business, I use 8 15k rpm SAS HDDs instead of the standard 7.2k rpm SATAs most companies use.

Main advantage: they're ~3 times faster (the 7.2k rpm vs. 15k rpm thing might make you think that they're only 2 times faster but the architectural superiority of SAS HDDs needs to be taken into consideration as well), especially since I'm using 8 of 'em (RAID 10)

Main disadvantage: less storage space, so I definitely can't help you if you need LOTS of storage.

The best solution in your case?

Since companies like mine can't help you since we're catering to the needs of the speed/performance crowd, find someone who does the opposite (in other words, companies that focus on storage) :)

Visit WebHostingTalk.com, take a look at their VPS Offers section and you might be able to find an attractive offer. If you don't manage to find a decent offer, try posting in their "Hosting Wanted" section or whatever it's called.

In my opinion though, choosing a low end dedicated server would be the best approach. If you decide to go dedicated instead of trying to find a VPS, PM me and I'll hook you up with an Atom like the one subigo recommended (1.5 TB storage) at the datacenter colo fee + a few dollars.
