in the three years i been browsing this board no one ever talked about
being schizophrenic/insomnia or seeing and hearing spirits.

This is a touchy topic for anyone to discuss with family or friends
because no one wants to admit it or wants anyone to find out so I figure
on a board where we dont have to feel ashamed to talk about our problems
is a good place.

I myself am neither of the aforementioned but my wife is.
She has insomnia and cant sleep because she claims that spirits talk to
her at all times of the day/night and she trys to tell them to leave.

she believes that she is closer to the "other" side therefore the
spirits that are on the "other" side know that she can hear them
so they bother her.

Stuff the spirits say is like...
- calls out her name
- she hears a conversation between two persons
..cant really remember what else she hears but she cant really
control a conversation between any of the spirits so I think its just
her hearing the voices, and she says that when the spirit is present she
can sense where it is and know if its standing in the corner or something.

Anyways I have a real open mind and dont discount her diagnosis on herself.
However we did go to a phyciatrist to get his opinion because supposedly they
deal with people like that every day so I was hoping that he could see a pattern
or similatirys and hopefully diagnose my wife with something.

The psychiatrist basically told her to take a pill (forgot which one) and if
she stopped hear stuff then we could move on from there...My impression was that
the doctor just wanted to make us pay for meds and keep returning for his consultations
so i said no thank you to the rebills and we never went back. wife took the pill for only
a few days and said it didnt help.

she has been having this problem eversince she was a kid, we also find out that
her mom just started having the same problems with hearing and seeing spirits and this started
last year when she was 63.

the other day I was talking to my neighbor and he said that he has insomnia and only sleeps
3 hours a night. I didnt ask what was the reason but I started to wonder if he has nightmares
or hears voices or something.

i started to think about my dad who lives by himself and sleeps with the tv on at night. I wondered
if he does that because he too is afraid of something while he sleeps.

i would call myself lucky to not have any problems sleeping nor hearing voices, because seeing
what my wife has to go through really sucks. I support her and feel sorry for her but i look on the brighter
side and am just thankful that life didnt deal her a more shittier card, like maybe cancer or
even a short time on earth.

so I was wondering if there were anyone in our little community on wf that has these similar problems.
or if you know anyone that does, Im curioius as to how wide spread this condition is.

Had schizophrenia, tell her there's nothing useful there, it's all bullshit or bullshit that leads to more bullshit guised as intelligent way to manipulate people like intrigue or charm, etc... This goes for all aspect of it... seeing things, hearing things, premonitions...tell her in a million years the only thing that matters is love, not even miracles, thinking your incredibly smart or popularity.

Tell her she's actually getting in the way of the help she's looking for because she's being too smart, maybe that would make sense to her...?

It's strange that everything you described is pretty much identical to hallucinations you would experience during a 700mg DPH trip. Auditory hallucinations where you hear your own name are the most common form of auditory hallucination for the same reason we see faces in clouds and toast.

Find a transpersonal psychologist and read some of Stan Grof's books (just google the stuff). Can be schizophrenia as well as genuine psychic abilities and personal awakening. Could be difficult to tell the difference, more so the line between above mentioned polarities is often thin, subtle and uneven. Good luck.

Seriously? She needs to take the pills - it probably takes much more than a few days before they start to work. Medicate her before she kills a stranger on a greyhound bus because she thinks they're an alien (happened in Canada). You "supporting" her voices does nothing to help her underlying mental condition.

Psychiatrists of course see this commonly. FYI something like 1 in 10 people with schizo end up commiting suicide, so there's no good reason to cheap out on the pills.
