Installing WP on WWW by default (and not the root folder)

So I bought an aged domain to add to my blog (Wordpress) network, and found that there are different PRs for the www subdomain and the main domain -

www.domain .com -PR4
domain .com - PR3

As Wordpress installs into the domain.com and not the www subdomain by default, is there a way to get it to install on the www domain instead?

I know that Wordpress automatically 301's the www to the main domain but since a huge bulk of the backlinks point to the www subdomain I'd rather get it to install to www by default and 301 the main domain to the subdomain.

Thanks a bunch!

to specifically answer your question, it depends on how you are installing i.e. via Fantastico you just drop down and choose "www" OR if you are doing a manual install, just edit your .htaccess and/or your wp-config.php to your desired settings. there are about 9 different ways to deploy WP so depends...

after the fact, just do it through your settings or .htaccess

I think you should go either way. 301 passes almost all power.

If you like the non-www, than go with that, and 301 the www to that.

Fantastico, Softacoulos gives an option prior installing.

To be honest I've never seen shawnhag's screenshot, though I had installed wordpress manually severeal times... Maybe I just don't remember ?

But .htaccess is the key, and you can find copy-paste content to insert in there, and that will take care of the www, non-www problem.

Every solution for this finally ends up in modifying .htaccess

How's my order going Shawnhag?
