Is Direct Affiliate Linking on Adwords Really Over?

Is there a proven way to do direct linking that's currently working for you.?

I was ready to go back to adsense and do some preliminary affiliate product testing with content banners when I started running across discussions of people getting banned by Google for doing direct linking to clickbank hoplinks.

I chickened out on my direct linking plans and am looking at creating landing pages to use for conversion rate testing, with all the quality score, positive visitor experience bobbles that some say Google values more highly than ad revenue.

Actually I've seen a bunch of conflicting guesses, exaggerations and disinformation on the subject.

One muddled issue is the display and destination url match requirement. Some argue that intermediate tracking urls like Prosper202 or Clickbank are acceptable as long as the user ends up at the display url. Another guy reports getting a declined ad and an url mis-match warning email from google advising hime to change the display URL to clickbank, after doing so he got another url mis-match warning email. Is this part of Google's affiliate extermination plan some speak of.

We've all heard about the single target URL per search results page which cut down dirct linking considerably, as I understood, content ads were less likely to run across a competetor and that banner ads reduced the quality score headaches. Are direct linked banners indeed a problem?

and the recent closure of thousands of Adwords accounts for somewhat opaque reasons.

One guy reported his account being closed with a notification from Google saying the clickbank product he was promoting was "anti Google" other's have just said promoting clickbank will simply get you banned, but didn't mention what products they were promoting.

I've heard word supposed from google that the mass closures were the most offensive rebill acai/diet product affiliates, and may not be a vendita against all affiliate marketers, I suppose the most direct indicator of big Gs love is the cost of clicks you are getting.

Last I heard Yahoo accepted direct linking, anyone know if theyr'e accepted by msn/bing?

I think direct linking is pretty much over, because of the single-target-URL rule you mentioned. But as for google banning people who promote clickbank products, I wouldn't be worried about that...just make a non-spammy LP and don't promote shady rebills.

ClickBank is the problem - not direct linking.

Most CB product landing pages are shitty. Meaning, they have only one long sales letter, exit popups, etc.,

I'm running a few profitable direct linking campaigns (NOT clickbank). You just have to take the time to look for the right advertisers/offers.
