I plan on creating a number of different content sites with the eventual idea of gaining organic as well as PPC traffic. I have read in a few posts here about sharing hosting and Analytics accounts between websites might be looked negatively upon by Google.

My point: What is the best tracking to use to manage a number of different sites that contain hundreds and thousands of pages worth of content?

I'm looking for ease of use (Analytics came to mind), something that is cross-functional (Analytics yet again), but something that will not potentially hurt my rankings.

I know some of you have large content networks, and what do you use to track visitors/conversion/etc?

Thanks!

EDIT: Also, not each of these sites will be affiliate sites. Prosper202 maybe?

Thx again

i just started using msn analytics, its pretty cool, free, and you dont have to give google all of your data

Alright. You are still giving MSN all your data ;) I guess giving them the data isn't the biggest problem for me, I was just wondering if Google would give less "juice" to a network of sites under the same Analytics/hosting account than if they were separate.

If you're content is good then google doesn't seem to care much about cross linking or "knowing via analytics" that your sites are owned by the same entity. It's not like a single entity can only create 1 quality website.

Now if you're talking about a shitty scraped network of unrelated sites then yeah it's probably best to just stay away from using the same analytics package on all sites. Also you'd probably want to use different registry data for each domain.

Thanks Brad. As far as registry data goes, are you talking only if the content on the network is sub-par? I don't want to have to register my domains with different CCs or something, or purchase multiple hosts. I have a few shared hosting accounts and am able to put up as many sites as I want, bandwidth allowing. I just figured I would want some kind of tracking to be able to determine the amount of quality of traffic I am receiving, and in the case for affiliate research, to determine the strength of various keywords.

However, I read a post here the other day about someone's content network and they said they have up to 10 different dedicated servers for their websites. Whether this is because the traffic he receives is much greater than mine, or he is doing it for security purposes, I do not know.

If you could elaborate it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I can't comment on whether it's the best because it's the only thing I've ever used. It's never caused me problems, imo tis brilliant. The only thing which could make it better is if it updated in real time.

Thanks Yaxxx. I'm pretty sure I'll end up using Analytics because of the ease of use. Also, I like the anonymous reporting that he has opposed to many of the other free tracking packages.

no. Google is the king. Google analytics is a fair maiden sent to infiltrate your village.

This maiden will fulfill your wildest fantasies for quite some time. and then when you least suspect it she will take all of your most valuable resources as she pillages and plunders.
