Is it worth creating a wiki account, and going through there and adding a bunch of worthwhile edits to pages in hopes of getting trusted in Wikipedia so that later on I have a better chance of links sticking?

I've also got another question, and instead of making another post, I"ll just put it in here.

Is it possible/a good idea, to make a Wikipedia article about your site? Like, its own page, so the whole page would have to be removed? And I'm not talking about making a Wiki pages for a stupid micro niche site. I'm talking about making a Wiki article about a 6 year old Forum that actually has some cool history. And then interlinking this with other related Wiki articles. Wiki to wiki links rarely get removed.

Instead of sitting at the edge and tossing stones into the abyss all your life, how about giving it a shot for some good old fashioned First Hand Experience?

You only want to stick your links there. right?
"insert_some_misSpelling_here" site:wikipedia.org
search that on google ^^... Many pages will come... Fix those little spelling errors.
Fix 3 errors a day. Do that for next 10 days. and then add a link.
It should stick there.

That is hard to do ^^ Takes lots of efforts. but yeah you can do that for a page that has value.

This is great advice, but sometimes I think its better to ask a bit of advice before (possibly) wasting a lot of time.

^^ +rep and sig'ed!!!

No offense to OP, but that line was sig worthy...

Haha, no offense taken.

Well yes, the overall goal is to get links on Wikipedia, but not in a spammy way. That's an really, really great tip! Thanks a ton! +repped

Thanks!
I get anywhere from 5 - 50 visits a day from links I have on wikipedia pages. Is that worth it to you?

There are plenty of websites that have their own wikipedia page:

Bodybuilding.com - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
4chan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Obviously, you will need to have something interesting about your site for the wiki page to stick.

Yeah, I did some research on websites having Wiki pages. I noticed the big shot websites having Wiki links, but I was unsure as to hard it would be to get my site a link. I'm going for it though!

I recommend doing this just to see how nontrivial it is to just drop your link around Wikipedia.

After all, thinking you're under the guise of a spelling correction doesn't change the fact that 120 of the 121 bytes you added to the article are a URL and 1 byte is the change from "to" to "too". And now you've just lost trust with the few people that do actively maintain the article.

You're better off making an edit that adds a few links to the External Resources section at the bottom of the article if there is one. Add three bullet points and sandwich your site between two links that actually probably should be there.

The reality is that if your link sticks then either your website is indeed significant (and you should graduate from being a sneak) or you found a particularly neglected part of wiki. Unfortunately if you're in this position neither of which are very likely.
