If I had my little way, I'd eat peaches every day and then close down 90-100% of oversees military bases, avoid anymore foreign entanglements, focus our military might on border defense and fix our economy and infrastructure.

It would take a ridiculous amount of political "balls" and decades upon decades of patience to ever come close to achieving this type of thing. It honestly depresses me at this point. It would need to be a straight up revolution of sorts.

Can you imagine how amazing our country would be though? Like if we got our shit together after a revolution and then did nothing but pour the majority of money we have/create into our own country for a few centuries? What a novel idea. I wonder if we could create jobs by developing high speed rails throughout the country? Hmmm...I think I'm on to something.

Fucking Afghanistan and the entire middle east will have high speed rail before California does by the time we're through over there.

Eldarion & Jsherloc, You guys are hitting the nail on the head man. Bring all our guys home and let them defend our borders, get out of debt, build up our infrastructure for a few decades then when the dust settles see what's shaking?

Will never happen in a million years but it's nice to dream~!

What the fuck is this obsession with high-speed rail? If people wanted it, businesses would build it. Put troops on the border, sure, but have you ever wondered why there is an element in this nation that is pushing HARD for it?

What can high-speed rail be used for? Getting foreign troops inside the country quickly, transporting large numbers of prisoners, etc... You guys are honestly too retarded for words sometimes.

i believe a 'highspeed rail' is used as an example of further technological advances that could be made if resources were primarily given to it.

What is with americans thinking they are the center of the world?

This thread is a mish mash of troll and idiocy

People don't want to be packed like sardines inside a train, they want to drive their own cars. But that can't be allowed. Drive up the price of fuel, decrease the energy supply, force Americans to use public transit and make them more dependent on the government.

And of course build an infrastructure that could be used for all sorts of nefarious purposes.

The majority of people living in China, Japan, Spain, South Korea, Germany, Belgium, U.K., Italy, France, Turkey, the Netherlands, etc would probably take this time to point out to you that their high speed rails have pretty much brought nothing but HUGE individual/collective benefits for a variety of reasons.

Interesting point of view though. Where can I find all these people in these developed nations that are complaining about their high speed rails? Saying things like "we don't want to be packed like sardines into these trains?!!!! If we use the train system for its efficiency, there is no way IN HELL we could still enjoy driving our car with the top down in the countryside on the weekends!"

Pretty sure the developed nations utilizing high speed rail are not forcing their citizens to use their systems. In fact, I'd say that citizens are forced to use the high speed rails because of the sheer inefficiency of relying soley and/or primarily on roadways and cars in the year 2011 with nearly 7 billion people populating this planet. If that is not the "free market" at work, I'm not sure what is. I don't know though, maybe we should ask people on this forum that live in some of these countries...seriously I'd be curious.

For those of you in countries with a very active rail system....is it seen as a blessing for the society or is it seen as more along the lines of a curse, as suggested by hellblazer here?

FATALITY!

HB PWNED ONCE AGAIN. :music06:

Personally, I'll just leave it at this: Starting yet another oil war is only a good thing if we admit to the real reason.

I detest all the lies we are fed, each and every war. It's insulting at first and becomes bitter evil after a while. -Our leaders don't just lack integrity anymore; they wouldn't know integrity if their lives depended on it.

(And frankly they should.)

Dissatisfaction is rising it's true. For the most part the govt. will only do what it knows or at least thinks it can get away with doing. I've always likened it to the cable bill. Everyone bitches about how cable is too expensive but they pay for it, but at the same time the cable company knows that if they charge too much people will just switch it off so a kind of barely tolerable equilibrium is created.

In the US however even though things continue to get worse they are still too good for anything to seriously change. We can still eat, we still have cable and we can still scrape by albeit more difficultly than before. But things on this downward spiral may start to ramp up soon. With the devaluing of the dollar food prices are starting to get crazy now. I've been buying cheaper and cheaper things to try and compensate but even stuff like store brand is starting to get up there in price. A 4 pack of starkist solid white tuna costs 6.99. Gas prices hurt but not as much as it would hurt if people stop being able to afford food. When more of the US starts to get hungry things will begin to change probably, though I don't know if it will be for the better or not.

Some kind of force or at least pressure would really have to be place on the govt. though. I lost all faith in our form of representation in 2008 when everyone, EVERYONE in the whole fucking world called up the house and said "DON'T FUCKING BAILOUT WALL STREET YOU STUPID FUCKS!". We are talking a majority of american opinions united against something around the order of the 90%'s. And what was the result? The govt. still did whatever the fuck it wanted. I think the only way we can get any real change with the system we have today is to either.

1. Set term limits for reps
2. Vote everyone who is in there out, EVERYONE and get all new guys
3. Change to using instant run off elections so instead of voting against who we don't want more people will be voting for who they actually want.

Nowadays I'm a super small govt. guy or maybe even more of an anarchist, something I don't believe can ever be achieved however. I'd be happy with a govt. that only controlled courts cops and roads. But I'm all for any small thing that might make things better too. I actually wanted obama over mccain cause mccain scared the crap out of me and I thought at least with obama we would maybe not have another war. Shows how much I know..

Your solutions are laughable. You left out lobbyists, 99.9% of the problem.

Be careful when you ask for small government. You might get something worse...

^This BBC Documentary will not only show you what that worse thing is, but you'll actually learn who's really in control, who had the most power in the 2oth century, and why the world is the way it is today. -Serious, serious stuff. ;)

Whether its a right thing or not, but the oil traders are enjoying it a lot !! $$
Only one reason why Gadhafi might be doing this acc. to me is that he might be finding himself getting quite bored by ruling the country since so many year.....So why not have some fun !! but it is definitely wrong !!
