Ok, so I'm new here. Thought I would join, seems like a fun environment to learn a bit about the biz. Here's my big question.

I have tried a couple of website ventures in the past, ppc advertising and drop ship retail. I completely failed at each. After some years I decided to help my family with their existing family picture website (using yahoo sitebuilder). I found it suprisingly easy to make a page in minutes.

Now I have researched affiliate marketing some and have a great Idea for a site. Are there any big setbacks in using a program such as sitebuilder when working with affiliate groups? I have used Frontpage a while ago but just find sitebuilder easier.

(I can't belive I admitted to using sitebuilder on my first thred!) Thanks!

Hi there.

There are a lot of things you can do with WYSIWIG (what you see is what you get) editors.

For beginners, these programs are often the easiest way to come to results fast.

but you are also robbing yourself of a lot of learning and possibilities that go beyond the program in question.

Do yourself a favor, read some HTML / CSS tutorials. Even if you continue using an editor, you'll understand more about what is going on.

You might also want to try an editor that lets you look at / manipulate the source HTML and CSS.

Frontpage and dreamweaver both do that, but cost money. NVU is a free editor you could try as well.

Get it here:
Nvu - The Complete Web Authoring System for Linux, Macintosh and Windows

To add to emp response.

I would suggest using Microsoft Visual Web Developer Its a free software with a huge amount of power for both someone just starting out and for more advanced features, its a program that makes things easy and you can do everything with it.

The thing I like about it is its free, you get both the WYSIWYG editor and the code behind so you can switch back and forth, if you don't know how to code something you can do it in the editor and switch to the code side and see what it looks like, the resources for this is extreme, it might take a couple days to get used to the user interface but its well worth it.

Thanks

Thanks Aequitas, Emp. I wasn't even thinking of the HTML side of things. I guess I just needed somebody to tell me I needed a better (and more confusing) program. My past failures in making money online have discouraged me going full steam ahead on this project. I will definitely check into these programs as soon as my rugrats go to sleep. Thanks for a kind answer both of you!
