This is one of the most reliable sites that I've used in finding hot items being sold on the net: You will find some awesome ideas from this site.

I also use Google Product Search where it lists the most searched for items live and as they happen. You can find this one at:

I can honestly tell you that I've made more money with this product suggestion alone than any other niche suggestion site.
And by all means, don't forget about Amazon's own BestSeller List. This is probably one of the most overlooked niche research sites out there.

Google just released a PRETTY cool tool affiliates may find useful.
Google Checkout Trends shows sales/revenue volume for actual products that were sold through Google Checkout. So instead of only knowing what products were searched for, you can see what products were actually SOLD and view product comparison data or seasonal buying trends.
Here are the results for wii VS xbox VS playstation. Take it for a spin and see what you think. The data can’t be 100% accurate, as it’s only Checkout merchants - but it could be representative and give affiliates some insights.
