I'm about to launch a new site (a redesign of my old site), and I want to keep parts of the old site online. There are a lot of files for the old site. My question is... can I some how store these in a separate folder or directory without changing their path on the stie in anyway? I realize this may be a longshot but I thought i'd ask anyway.

For example in ftp I have all the new files...and I want to maybe have a folder called 'old' and keep all the old ones in there. but I DONT want their path to be changed i.e. from mysite.com/file.htm to mysite.com/old/file.htm. is there some kind of loophole to work around this?

I thought about that but am concerned.... some of the pages have a really high ranking in the serps, and I dont want to change that.. i realize 301 is the way to go if i took this route but if there is some other option i'd love to hear it.

Leave everything where it is and just add new directories to put the new stuff.

no,are not impossible...i am not sure who is the perfect solution...but i am sure that is not impossible.

You _have_ to redirect, don't leave them up. Your internal links (from the homepage) etc won't post to those pages any more and they will drop in ranking if you don't.
