Is Vegas REALLY Family-Friendly?

Somehow I've never made it to Vegas despite a healthy bit of travel over the years. I'm not going to make to any tradeshows there this year, but all the talk of MILFs and whores has me wondering - is Vegas as "family-friendly" as it tries to market itself? I ask only because I'm one of those mommies who doesn't leave her kids behind - how else I can be sure they are being raised as geniuses properly?

If I were to go to Vegas at some point to pop in on some action in a conference or just for fun - is it family friendly? I'll preface by saying my boys are under the age of four, so we'll have to save the T&A for a later trip.

it is friendly in my opinions if you stay on the main streets, i seen alot conservative asian parents friends bring their little kids to vegas.

So all those roller coaster commercials and Celine Dion ads are false advertising? Hmmmm...guess we'll stick with hiking the Rockies and Disney World for now. Thanks for the info - I figured y'all would be the ones in the know. Looks like I was right. :)

every time i go i see more and more kids with leashes on! what's up with the kid leash? anyway I was watching one of those shows with girls in fishnets - The Sirens of TI, nice little show. I looked around and felt sick when i saw what looked like a damn class trip next to me. i went back to the bar.

Like everyone said they actually changed their slogan a while back (8+years) figuring out that "family friendly" wasn't as lucrative as "What happens in vegas stays in vegas"

Let's put it this way... The alcoholic beverages come with handy neck cords so you can bring your gin and juice where ever you want to go. Pure debauchery.

vegas can be family-friendly. last time i went there, my friends took their kids to the many state parks and recreational areas... outside of the vegas city scene. there's a hotel called circus circus that's very much family-friendly. they have an indoor theme park and other attractions-- inside the hotel. crazy.

when's the last time you set foot in circus circus? that place is a shit hole. I took my kids there a few weeks ago. the place was filthy. the circus act was 10 minutes long, after waiting 45 minutes, then told to wait another hour until the next 10 minute show.

Take the kids to check out all the new hotels and stuff. MGM Grand has a lion habitat, Mirage has an awesome Volcano show every hour at night (must see), Treasure Island has the pirate show in front, Bellagio has the Fountains. There's a lot to see if you have kids, just use your head.

At Planet Hollywood, take the kids to see "V" variety show, it's kid friendly. We took our kids to see American Superstars at the Stratosphere cause they said you could take kids 5 and up, but it was a bit too much for my 5 and 9 year old.

Hoover Dam is about 45 min away too.

Last time I was there, 2003, almost anywhere you walk on the LV strip, there were tons of people standing around handing out brochures for strip clubs and other related establishments. They had a unique way of getting your attention as you walk by. They somehow "flick" the cards with their finger nail, making a noise which caused people to unconsciously look their way. After a while you learn to ignore them. I like vegas but would not take my kid there.

Hmm, I wouldn't call it family friendly because Vegas promotes gambling, sex and alcohol. However, there are a lot of family targeted places that one could take their child(ren) to. You could check out: Mirage's tigers, Mandalay Bay's Shark Reef, Go to Hoover Dam and take a helicopter ride, Red Rock horse back riding, Mt. Charleston, Lee Canyon, the list goes on and on. Obviously the strip is going to be tailored to individuals of 21 or older, but you can find things to do.

It's funny. Some people are appalled at the idea. But again, I don't think those people have ever had children. It's not just the sanity factor for the parent it's actually a safety issue. Some kids are so rambunctious it's almost impossible to keep a hold of them and they will just dodge into traffic without a moment's notice. I say, better kid on a leash then kid on a gurney.

the shows and stuff are very family friendly and the hotels are as far as shops pools and stuff, but theres smoking and drinking everywhere and prostitutes hang out at the bars. Its not like rowdy per say but I wouldn't bring my kids if I had em
