Photographer Charged In Sex Assault On Teens - News Story - WMUR Manchester

NASHUA, N.H. --

A Nashua photographer was arrested Monday and charged with five counts of sexual assault and one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault, according to court documents.

Brendan Maness, 32, was operating a photo studio out of his Crown Street apartment, said Lt. Jeffrey Bukunt of the Nashua Police Department.
"The first victim that came to our attention was photographed in March of this year, and that would qualify for aggravated felonious sexual assault," Bukunt said.

Court affidavits said that on two occasions, two girls ages 16 and 17 were accompanied by their mothers when they went to Maness's apartment for a photo shoot. But Maness asked the mothers to wait in the hallway.

During the shoot, the victims told police that Maness rubbed baby oil on them and adjusted their bathing suit bottoms and touched their genitals.

One mother said that she had some concerns, but because the photography session was set up by a modeling agency, she thought it was OK.

"I kind of got a little leery about it, and then I said, 'Oh well, it must be OK; it's through a modeling agency,'" the mother, who did want to give her name, told News 9.

A staff member of Mystique Model and Talent Management confirmed to News 9 that at least one of the victims was referred to Maness from the agency. The staff member said the agency no longer sends any clients to Maness.

Cynthia Hudson with Mystique Modeling in Nashua said that she did not authorize the photo shoots. She told News 9 that even though she had originally hired Maness to photograph her models, it was the families that returned on their own after Maness offered a free photo session.

“I gave him a chance. I set this one photo shoot up. It’s disturbing because you trust this photographer,” Hudson said.

Hudson said that she now does background checks on her photographers.
Maness was released on $500 cash bail and is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on Aug. 18 at Nashua District Court.

In another news source the owner of the agency said:

"I have nothing to do with him, not anything to do with the photographer. I believe my model," said Cynthia Hudson, who runs Mystique modeling agency in Nashua, and says she hired Maness once because she liked his work and wanted to give him a break.

But she says her 16-year-old client was assaulted by him when the girl set up a free photo shoot with Maness at his Nashua apartment without her knowledge.

"He did a swimsuit shoot rubbing oil on her, taking advantage of her, and I'll leave it at that," said Hudson.

Let me get this straight. You take your smokin' hot 16 year old daughter to a "photo shoot" in some fat, balding greasy mofo's apartment. He tells you to wait outside while he "shoots" your daughter and you think "oh thats normal". These parents need to be shot in the head.

Right up there with the parents who take their toddlers and 6 year olds to the "agencies" to have them pose in swimsuits in all kind of odd poses and post on websites and not think "gee thats odd..."
 
Who would have thought I could have learned parenting skills in WF. Now I know not to let me daughter into some grease guys room alone to take pictures of her.

As a parent how the fuck do you let your kids get into that situation. /facepalm

Guess that just goes to show, if you wana catch parents off gaurd, start an "agency" under a diff name :P, cuz I mean sheesh, its an agency, you can trust em right? I mean all those pre-teen modeling agencies are just kosher right?

I guess I'm just more cynical than the average person. No wonder grants and diet shit work so well people automatically have this odd sense of trust that has to be torn down instead of build up.

It's simple. It's like you're a web design company that hires a freelancer for a certain client who wishes to get some articles written.

A year down the line that particular freelancer contacts your client with an amazing deal - the client follows back with a huge order thinking that "since he's via an agency - it must be OK" - and BAM! the writer runs away with his money!

So who's to be blamed? You (the design company)? The Client? Or the Scammer?

Except in this case the agency set the client up with the photographer at that specific time, just not with the intention of it being at his apartment. So the business association was still pretty fresh and they don't exactly seem legit/serious themselves. :p
 
I'd agree kblessinggr - but my point was that though the association was fresh, the company didn't have anything to do with the molestation.

And him working out of his apartment isn't that big a problem - many freelance photographers do that. Even if it had been setup in the studio, he could've easily asked the parents to stay at the reception while he took the kids in the studio inside.

Everyone knows that it's wrong to stick your fingers inside little girls and the molestation didn't take place on any of their official photo-shoots, it was when he offered free photo sessions and the parent's decided to return on their own discretion that it happened. So how is the company to be blamed?

Sexual Abuse is more of a personal trait and not some kind of an organized crime so as to blame the company. No amount of background checks can tell you if the concerned dude is a Sexually Deprived Asshole!

i'll help you all get this straight .. this guy is in fact a perv ; i mean just look at him ! no one who was getting a photo shoot done thought it was going to be an apartment .. no girl had any idea ! they all took the address and just went . he didn't have the moms wait outside (cheshire) if you read the post , he had them wait in the hallway . the only reason was because the room was so small that if anyone else was in the room , it could probably mess up the photo from the shadows . the mothers were standing right by the door but they were talking to one another so their eyes weren't 100% always on their daughters . & for the comment for mom of the year 2008 ; it is true .. she didn't know it was going to be a photo shoot like this . you would think that the modeling agencies would hire photographers that had a studio .. not a so called "studio" in a little room in their apartment . no one had any idea it was going to be a photo shoot like this but everyone trusted the agency . in the article where it says * Cynthia Hudson with Mystique Modeling in Nashua said that she did not authorize the photo shoots.
