I have become very good friends with Jared for the passed 18 months+ , although he is a friend I'm not going to simply lie and make shit up as a review copy. I see this happen far too much and it simply pisses me off.

ATTENTION:

I can't update the first post, so let me clarify something here, because there has been a bit of confusion.

The main attraction of this type of link is not the Page Rank juice, although there is some there. The page itself is PR 2, but as pointed out, spread across 70 OBL's, it's going to get thin. That's the nature of this page and the way it's set up. It's not on Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, or any of that newfangled stuff. It's straight up HTML from yonder days past. There is no cPanel, there is no FTP client, etc. This is ancient crap. I have 50 MB of space on this server.

With that being said, to me, and I hope others who are opting into this deal, the main attractor is the Authority and Trust and Age associated with being linked out from an old EDU domain. There are many metrics I cited above, such is Page Authority, Domain Authority, Citation Flow, Trust Flow.... those all are extremely high and have little to do with Page Rank. I think most of us have come to recognize that Page Rank is "somewhat" of a vanity metric, although it does indicate ranking power. But it's not the only boat on the waters any more.

Another point I'd like to make clear is that this page was not for some huge fraternity or Greek organization. It was for a "club," a group of friends who formed a club. This was one page I hosted among many on this server. I paid good money for that 50 MB of space, like you wouldn't believe now. Now I can walk down to Walmart and get a 32 GB flash stick for less than I paid for that space. But if you dig around, the file structure has changed recently. I deleted tons of pages from this server space because they were of a personal nature or belonged to others. I'd like to not expose my entire academic career to Wickedfire.

The way the "control panel" works is that I had essentially two choices... delete about 10,000 files one at a time (which I actually started doing and made it through about 200 before I wanted to kill myself), or wipe the whole deal clean and then reupload this page.

This is what I'm dealing with.

I opted for the 2nd method, because it solved my problem in one swoop. It got rid of all the other stuff in a jiffy, and got rid of the file structure associated with the other stuff so people couldn't snoop around. What this ended up meaning is that now, this one page is at the "main index" of this server space.

So as people start digging around, they are going to notice peculiarities. This change was initiated about four months ago, but Google is hanging onto some odd pages here and there, and hasn't updated the index completely.

For instance, if you search for the URL itself, it comes up number one. If you search for a "site:" search, other pages still linger, but the main index doesn't show yet for some reason. I don't know why. It's been long enough in my mind for Google to sort it out.

Anyways, I didn't think there was any need to mention all of this before hand, but as buyers who are spending quality money for quality links, of course people are going to look around. This is the explanation for what you will find or not find. I hope it suffices.

TL;DR version:

1)This type of link passes Authority, Trust, and Age related ranking factors, not necessarily Page Rank (although there is some). It's not a game changer. It's one piece of the puzzle for large authority sites. It has been suggested, though, that I find some High PR links to shoot at it to help everyone out, and I have no problem with that and will be doing that throughout the week.

2) If you think the file path and all that looks funny, read the above for why.

Now I'm not sure at this stage if this link will help my rankings, but whenever I check high performing competitors I nearly always find the odd link like this.

I always thought how the hell did they get that !!! Well now I've got one myself and I feel rather pleased :cool::cool::cool:
