Japan nuclear woes reaching chernobyl levels

Thats funny because I could of sworn I heard some talk around here that this wasn't that big of a deal and it would never get that bad.

Its probably not as big but im sure they don't hand out 7/7 ratings for shits and giggles.

Just because they declared it a 7 on some scale doesn't mean it's anywhere as bad as Chernobyl.
Yeah it's reached the same level, and though not as much radiation has been released as Chernobyl, it's the long term problems that you can't put a number on.

Shows how dangerous these things can be though, especially for those working to stabilise it.

I read a couple of interviews of expats in Japan who listened to the news today that the disaster rating was raised to 7/7 and at the same time the government said to be prepared in case things get worse. They are like, wtf.

7 is just the highest that rating system goes. I guess we need a better rating system. From what I understand, Chernobyl is still a lot worse.

It's kind of like seeing a really ugly girl and saying, "Man, that chick is ugly. She's like a 1 on a scale from 1 to 10." And then you see a gorilla with its head beaten in with a baseball bat, crawling with insects and covered with feces and maggots. Yeah, that's worse, but the damn system only goes down to 1.

No, it hasn't even come close to reaching the same level, and fear and rumor mongering isn't helping matters any.

That's exactly it.

It is the same level, but it isn't, as explained here.

That's the problem when you over exaggerate something on any ratings system. Be nice to her and give her a 2.

Fear mongering idiots ITT who still don't know why Chernobyl was far worse (but don't care to know because they get their news from HuffPost)

Don't blame them, PJ, feel sorry instead for ppl who are excited and scared by what the magic box is telling them and just make sure their decisions can't affect you personally.
