I have owned my own business for a few years which was mainly selling mortgage leads and since the mortgage industry has taken a huge dump have been looking around for a new job until I can get back to where I was. I just wanted to give anyone in my situation a heads up that if you go on careerbuilder or monster and post a resume you will get a lot of offers that are bogus.

Some of the names of the sites are think-careers.com and fastjobopenings.com which are obvioulsy the same website template.

Yes I had a gut feeling that this was not legit, but at the same time there are legimate recruiters so I gave them my info. Of course you get a follow up email for more information and if you try to contact them the email is returned because it does not exist.

I just wanted to put that out there for anyone in the situation of getting a job to learn from my dumbass because as this company is probably selling my info as we speak.

Live and learn. Fuck lying bastards.

Depending on your field you may just want to contact a reputable recruiter in your area.

Send out your own resume. I heard the best results are when you have them contact you by phone. Include every little bit of training you have ever had to go through. One of the guys I talked to who did this was an assistant manager at Wal-Mart and he increased his income drastically and got weekends off (a big deal in retail!).

Good advice from both of you. I have had a few offers come my way but nothing that I really wanted to jump at. I have not tried going straight to a recruiter yet but probably will give it a shot this week.

Yeah, in the past I've worked the resume angle for a week or two to see what's out there. If nothing looks promising, then a recruiter can find more available jobs that aren't listed on Monster, etc. Recruiters always have your salary at the top of their priority since they usually make 20-30% of your annual income upfront as a finders fee (paid by the employer).

Resumes dont work. I have applied for dozens of jobs, and when I started applying for jobs and only submitted by blog as a resume, I got more call backs. But make sure your blog is industry specific. So its hard to jump from nursing to sales, especially if your blog reflects nursing. So start blogging about your industry if you dont have the smarts to run your own business. Companies who hire vi resumes are hiring second-rate employees. The best have contacts and portfolios that the companies know about already.

However, for many people, they have neither the contacts nor the experience, so services like Monster and Career Builder are necessary. Unfortunately they attract some spammers. I'm developing a service that offers the job searchers and recruiters a powerful outlet to connect with one another without letting in spammers or the like.
