Jobseekers hiding facebook pages

A lot of people will say it's unfair, and your private life is nobody's business. It isn't any different then living in a small town though.

Our big world is getting smaller and smaller.

If I were an employer I'd definitely look up everything I could about somebody and Facebook would be first base. I mean yeah, it feels invasive when you're looking at it in a way like 'personal life vs. corporate judgment', but it's only logical for the employer: you're going to learn a lot more about somebody when they post it freely than when they come in acting for a few minutes of an interview they rehearsed.

Besides, you can make anything on Facebook private, right? So if you're comfortable showing off your lifestyle to everyone in the world EXCEPT prospective employers, you must feel you're doing something questionable.

i meen i guezz but wut do i no rite lols

I made sure and updated privacy to where when you search for my name it won't link you to the facebook page (unless you're already my "friend")...

Now the kicker is when employers will ask you to friend them so they can check you out (kinda like the whole credit score debate, or drug tests) what are you going to say? no? ok, bye then.

Buy every domain you can afford that has your name in it. Create a flog about how badass of a candidate you are. Then make an interlink network and pwn that shit with SE5.6.

In all seriousness - linkedin fucked me over when I was buying a domain for private sale. I accidentally used my real email when inquiring about it. He realized I had a deeper pocket than I was 'pretending' to have. >.>

As with most things the system can be gamed :)

As someone mentioned would be pretty easy to make something that made you look amazing. :)

Like you're a published author, have a huge following and are all around AMAZING :P

Facebook has per-user privacy settings. ;-)

I would be pissed to hell if an employer checked out my personal facebook profile and made judgements about me that prevented me from getting a job, hell even if i got the job i would be pissed. You always here the saying, "keep your work and personal life seperate." Hell in some cases you can get in deep shit for talking about your personal lives at work. But they expect it to be ok to dig into your personal lives. Fucked up in opinion.

That's something that always irked me, is a pending post on bizcaf (sidenote) because it pisses me off that much. Meh.

Wouldn't be the first time that's happened to me.

If a prospective employer asks to friend them or whatever on facebook, you obviously set up a fake account and seed it with some family friend stuff. And then you post constant updates about how eager you are for your interview with ZYX company.

If they're not smart enough to 'hide' their pictures that I might question as an employer - I don't want them working for me anyways.

Would I be friends with a prospective employer on Facebook? Hell NO.

agreed...can't you just make yourself invisible to people searching for you or add them to a list where they can't see your pictures/posts? I really don't see what the point of changing your name is, just update your privacy.

Engage Cloaking field, Mr. Worf.

There are a setting where you can't even friend someone. Basically just the name appears. And if they ask. you say you don't use it anymore.

What kind of dumbass employer will ask so straight anyway.

lol... All these scared sheeple 'hiding' who they are to go and work for the man.

and a potential employer claiming...

Look at this bullshit collectivist world.
