A friend who was advising me a couple of years ago when I knew less than now recommended them for purchase. You're saying they're useless?
I understand now that Joel's hyper-pitch got my naive friend stoked up and he made a bad recommendation.

Loading the templates and looking at the linking he does to partner softwares is actually an interesting lesson in how this guy got so rich. There's a demonstration of a software called Hyperve that Joel gives a link to for free download that has his affiliate code (natch).
The catch is that Hyperve will embed affiliate links within your html using the free version. The gold version you have to pay for is has no sneaky embedding. This is probably spelled out in the TOS, but nobody reads that of course. Joel gets richer and richer whatever you're doing with the software - whether it's buying the gold or using the free version with the affiliate links.
Now I'm wondering if the Adsense templates I bought from Joel will embed his affiliate links in my code. I don't want affiliate links in my code that aren't my own. I think I can make some use of them, but want to be sure they're clean.
Very interesting (and expensive) example of affiliate marketing and how the self-styled "gurus" get so rich.
