Keyword Research: Should I look at Phrase or Exact Match traffic figures?

With looking at keyword traffic for SEO for a new site, should I target keywords based on the phrase match traffic stats or exact match traffic stats?

exact match is almost always the best bet

Go for exact match. Phrase and broad match just give you an unrealistic idea of what traffic you will get.

yeah, that's why researching via exact match is the right way to go. You might get the wrong idea of a keyword with broad match or phrase. Exact is much more realistic.

I have 2 sites that I researched keywords in MS. Had great traffic on paper so I regged the domains. You know the punch line right went back in and saw my setting was set to broad. Not making much off them and trying to use the domain as a secondary KW and branding for a related keyword.

In my experience you don't need to consider Phrase Match or Exact Match. As nowadays, google is smart enough to understand what the user wants. Google knows totally different queries could convey the same meaning.

In my opinion I had almost prefer the Exact match if it is a small niche, but if it something more popular you could consider both of them. In all cases Google is good for both.
