KW research: is Google fucking with me?

I've been doing a lot of KW research the past 24 hours including using some software that does a bulk allintitle competition check for a list of KWs on Google. I've been doing about 100 of them at a time.

So when I first ran the software it returned a competition of 1,590 pages for a great KW (avg monthly search volume: 110,000). I thought this sounded a bit odd so I did a manual allintitle:"kw phrase" search in google and it had the same return: 1,590.

A couple hours later I checked it again, and the exact same allintitle search then showed a competition of 40,300. So of course I was sitting there wondering if it was just some error on my part. (checked again today, same 40,300 result).

Well now today the same thing has happened with another great KW. I thought I'd found a good one with a competition of 4,900 on a 49,500 avg search volume. Did a manual check and sure enough it still said 4,900. Checked it a couple hours later, now the competition is 31,700! WTF??

So the question is has anyone ever experienced this before? Could Google be fucking with me because I was doing bulk automated allintitle searches? Seems unlikely they'd be so petty but undoubtedly, this has happened twice now.

You're probably getting different results because you're using different google data centers. In either case, I would go with whichever has the highest count.

These sorts of things happen all the time. I've busted my ass for what I thought were high volume keywords, only to get to the top positions and be dissapointed. Likewise, I've ranked for what Google indicates is very low search volume but sends a ton of volume.

These keyword tools give you an idea of what people search for and can generally provide a good estimate, but they're far from accurate... from my experience anyway.
