Land Rover

looks gay.

go for a diesel if you really need an SUV. Diesel torque ftw and they dont even sound like tractors anymore.

not specifically looking for an suv. just a wrangler is all i really want, but since they are popular they are really overpriced. anything else cool im interested in and the land rover looks pretty sick

LR's and Ranges are sick however you better be prepared to shell out the dough when it comes to the random repairs. Parts are not cheap and the little shit always goes wrong with them.

Check out some reviews.

Cherokee's if you want off road capability... Also a Yota 4Runner can be had for about 7-8k if you go for an early 2000 model... They run for EVER, are reliable as fuck, and will get you just about anywhere on Earth, if that's your thing.

Also, if you're just looking for more 'oomph' and muscle out of an every-day ride, take a look at 2000-2003 Ford F250/F350's with the 7.3 diesel...

I've owned 3 of them, and I love them to death. 2 of them were over 200k miles and according to lab reports on my oil, they were just broken in. Many of these will run for 600k+ miles without a sweat (200k on a diesel is like 60k on a gas engine), plus you get a big ass truck, that cool tractor noise (up yours ricdes haha), a TON of fucking power, and still around 17MPG (you can hit 20-22 with mods, plus gain a few hundred foot lbs of torque and another 150-200 hp).

Just throwing ideas out there from my experience.

That being said, the newer Range Rovers are sick, but way too fucking expensive, and horribly unreliable from every case I've seen. I'd rather drop 8-9k on a used Escalade than on a Range Rover.

SUPER DUTY F-350 4X4 (1999)
I know you're not in the same state, but that's just an example... Been thinking about grabbing another one... The last one I got was fully certified and I purchased it at 270k miles, ran it for another 40k, and sold it for more than I financed.

Anyways, I'll shut up now.

I used to drive that car when I lived in Costa Rica. The thing is a tank but its a bitch on gas!!! Also repairs were huge, atleast there.. I cant remember ever being stuck though and I took that thing all over the place.

Comparably the Jeep should be cheap and easy to work on -- maybe a reason why they tend to keep higher used selling prices.

Ricdes: The Discovery makes me think of driving through Jurassic Park, which I was going to say is cool but yeah maybe it is gay.. :D As far as diesel is concerned options are not plentiful here in the US.

Be prepared for a lot of shop time. If you buy used, buy a 2nd car to use while it's being worked on. My Rover mechanic drove a Ferrari. Seriously.

Best car in that range- 2001 Audi A8 if you have the money to repair in those rare times it breaks. Best reliable car in that range 2003 infiniti g35 coupe.

If you must have a gas hog SUV, i always liked the escalades those years, GMC made some good trucks those years as well.

Rovers had the WORST consumer reports ratings this year. UK cars FTL...
Stick with the Wrangler. 6 cyl rocks hard..

Yeah, Rover went down the pan a long time ago.

Personally I'd go for an old Land Rover over the modern ones any day. (Same with MGs and Minis too)

Get a defender and you won't have problems with reliability, though ya won't have much comfort either.

i live in honolulu and grew up in the country on another island often having to take 4x4's to the beach or through really, really rough terrain. i'd go with a defender or older land rover model. otherwise go with a 4runner or isuzu trooper or nissan xterra.

for a cheaper SUV you could go with an older 4runner or a trailblazer or pathfinder.

Or get a Toyota HiLux

My buddy drove a Toyota Land Cruiser here in Spain for awhile and that served him pretty well. The collector's market is crazy for them though and they are not cheap. He's now in a Jeep Wrangler and that thing is cool, but it hogs down on the gas and parts are ridiculously expensive here. I think he's going to sell it soon.
