What do you guys think about landing pages? -- How successful are they? would you guys suggest a complete footer or a basic 2 line footer with no links away from the landing page or what?

Thanks!

I really don't feel like answering this question right now because the easy answer is yes they do work but only if you make them work.

As for the long answer, I'll make it short instead, do a search for landing pages on these forums, I'm sure you'll find lots because others and myself have had similar conversations.

It really does depend on the product/service that you are promoting.

For example if you are promoting something "quick and dirty" like a ringtone or voucher offer then usually a couple of lines of text and some pretty graphics will be all you need.

However if you are promoting something more comples, i.e. a loan or maybe a 12-month cellphone contract then you will need to implement more pre-sell on your landing page. Give the users more reassurance that you are promoting a reputable company and the deal is a good one. It is well worth employing a professional designer to give your landing page a slick, professional feel, this in itself inspires confidence. Remember to give your visitors lots of chances to click out of your landing page, so use "click here for more info", "go!", "buy now", "details here" and the such. Comparisons and reviews are also worth implementing.

Here's an example of a landing page I used 3 years ago, its now defunct but gives you an example of something that is "quite" polished. Prepaid MasterCard - no credit checks and no refusals.

And here's another more recent one from last year. New Offers from Telewest - Broadband, Digital TV and Phone

Where'd you come across those graphics for the second site? Are those original (the cartoon woman and all), because I dont have the skills to make pretty graphics or the means to get them, does that mean my landing page will fail? And how much would a site like that make on average in a week at the level you promoted it?

The cartoon woman was lifted from the merchants site, I had their permission and they signed it off.

Your landing page won't necessarily fail but I do think it is important that it looks polished and professional. When I first ventured into the world of Affiliate Marketing I just made my own landing pages, then eventually in time when you start to make a profit its worth hiring a designer.

That particular campaign had the ability to make thousands of £'s profit per week.

Hmm, I like it! Nice landing page.

I like the narrow focus of the page. The only problem I have is the "Get Started" button is the only thing that you can follow on to your offer. Since it is sort of hidden there, I say make the whole thing a clickable page or something.

I'll definately be testing this with PPCs and things later.

Thanks for the info -- I've made it click able at the top too... so that should be on the + for your PPC conversion...

If you have any other ideas... let me know.

Good to hear that you approve them ;) -- Thanks for the input, Apples rock... I use one too...

Mmm, I love me some Washington Apples too. Oh wait.. well since we are getting offtopic, whatever.

Kieron,

Thanks for the info. It's appreciated. Here is an idea that we have made:

Couple of things...

First of all, there is only one place for the users to click, and that is on the header. Give your users more choice, how about some "more info" buttons for example.

Secondly, and rather fundamentally its just not clear what you are selling. Yes I know it is web hosting but what packages are available to me? Where is the comparison that shows me whats on offer? Your page just says "web hosting at its best, from $6.95". Why not tell your users why this is a great deal?

You also say at the bottom, trusted by over 20,000 websites. Why not list some well known sites that are hosted? Do you know them? Do what you can to inspire customers.

Also, I don't know if you are planning to promote via Google AdWords but it looks too "thin" to me. You really need to add a bit more content.

Finally, when I click through the landing page I get staright to a page that asks me for a domain, and I notice I have a product worth $166 in my basket!! What? I'm off, and customer closes browser window.
