After grinding until early this morning I came across this "daily deal" site that had these two Samsung refurb models up:

Never bought from one of these sites before but it seems legit enough after some snooping around.

I'll obv. upgrade the RAM in both. It would have been nice if the 7 series took 16g and spun at 7,200 rpm (though I may replace the HD so not really an issue)

For what I'll use this for I'll probably not even need to.

Nice find. I almost picked up one of these last month. I was a little weary though after reading some reviews on Amazon and BestBuy.com

I didn't see many reviews that couldn't be chalked up to normal person dumbassedness so it didn't steer me away.

They both come with a 90 day warranty and I've had nothing but good experiences with Samsung (tvs, phones, etc) so I figured it was worth a shot.

If they both end up shitting the bed, I'm out less than $1,500 so it won't be the end of the world. I think it'll be fine, though.
