What is the best way to get a difinitive list of a website's link portfolio? ie. a list of links directed at a specific website. I usually use Blekko and opensiteexplorer.org just to get a snapshot of links, but would like to get a more comprehensive/complete list.

I do not think that any one tool is going to be able to see all of the links pointing to a site, especially if that site has a fuckton of links. I use a combination of tools and look for trends when I am trying to break into a niche. OSE is good but I also really like ahrefs.

There are several good linking tools, unique article wizard, linkvana, and the link juicer are all good services.

Thanks ANOMOANON, rcriger and ChrisDouthit for the suggestions. I will be taking a closer look at ahrefs and maybe a couple others. Nohel, I have a huge list of tools that was posted quite a while back, just opening up a thread to hear/learn latest thoughts from the community.

My concern is when there is such a variance in results I am unsure which results I should trust. I will likely follow ANOMOANON's advice and use a combination of tools and look for trends.

In regard to varied results, here are the link stats from blekko and opensiteexplorer:

Site A.
5,132 from 97 domains blekko
12,314 from 73 domains opensiteexplorer.org

Site B.
3,061 from 152 domains blekko
7,716 from 75 domains opensiteexplorer.org

Site C.
2,005 from 383 domains blekko
5,631 from 761 domains opensiteexplorer.org

Yea I don't think any one tool is going to give you reliable results. Just use them as an estimate, but not exact numbers.

Use Scrapebox man! add the results of the three and remove duplicates in excel...

Then use SBlinkchecker to verify the backlinks...

then BOOM! you got around 90% of the links! YOu may not get everything but you did everything to get the closest numbers as possible

Best way is probably to sneak into googleplex and download their db. You could
just pose as a pizza delivery boy or something.

Second best way is to create your own bot that crawls the web and saves
every detail then cross reference links to sites. When you have that done,
let me know how I can access it.

I'm sure you'd be willing to share it right?

Another site similar to opensiteexplorer is Ahrefs, Shows you all a sites backlinks, but you can only do a certain # of searches a day as a free memeber

I tested both uaw and linkvana but linkvana turned out to be a winner in terms of ranking
they offer all kind of linkbuilding from one dashboard as mentioned on their blog
