Looks awesome. I want one.

Very logical step in firearms advancement. Personally I'm surprised it took this long.

Interestingly enough, something like 7 years ago the military was showing a prototype robot that could hit a baseball sized target 300yds away with a controlled burst from a SAW. Roughly 3 times more accurate than the best trained SAW gunners.

With the advancement of mobile processing, it would be VERY possible to use off the shelf components to build something similar.

Scope + Digital camera/camcorder + mobile linux PC + laser rangefinder + Mini weather station = Similar performance at a lower price.

Edit : The big stumbling block that I personally would have would be a laser rangefinder that integrates with Linux. Although I was proven wrong with a few searches. They are $300 and are ready to go :D

Hmm... I wonder how it would do in low light, darkness, fog, and adverse conditions. The article says it uses image recognition but all the examples I seen were in sunny days.

LOL at the end of the article where they address the use of this tool in shootings. If you are worried about that you must have never fired a rifle in your life before. What idiots.

Holy Shit, after watching the youtube video and seeing how it is designed to function...Genius, absolutely genius. This is BIG

If the technology proves reliable, there is no reason why every military sniper rifle in the world should not incorporate this system. I am going to be watching this company very closely...

Nothing outside of the trigger setup is actually new. The military has been using weather stations/laser range finders for snipers for quite some time.

What's interesting is that it's all in one scope that's tied to the trigger.

That is fucking crazy shit!

I was trying to be all peaceful and nice with bendy plastic screens and you go and thoroughly trounce me with this shizzle?!!

That said - there are so many things that could be made with current technology that just haven't been put together the right way it's hardly surprising.

meh, I like iron sights. Not at all kidding. Anybody can be a "great" marksman with assistance. It is so much more satisfying to hit something at 300 - 400 yards with just iron sights. (It amazes me how many people have a hard time hitting the broad side of a barn with a high power scope at 100 yards, so maybe there is something to that thing)

I do make a concession to red dots with no magnification, simply because they allow much faster target acquisition.
