Anyone else taking part in the Philly Livestrong Challenge this Sunday? I'm doing the 100 mile loop with a friend of mine, should be fun.

For those who don't know and want to know more about it, here's the link: Randomn3ss Livestrong Challenge Philadelphia 2009

If you are also interested in donating on my behalf (even $5 helps) - the link is on that page - you can use your credit card, the money goes right to the Lance Armstrong Foundation for Cancer research / cure and is tax deductible.

Mods - this is not spam, I do not receive $$ for this, in fact, it cost me $50 (non tax deductible) out of my pocket to sign up and all I get is sore legs at the end.

If it was for another cause I'd happily sponsor you, unfortunately cancer research is bullshit.

Sorry you feel that way, I've lost too many friends and my friends have lost too many family members for it simply to be filed under bullshit. The LAF also puts a good deal of loot towards treatment, not just research.

I am sorry about your friends and family, I really am.

But please wake up to yourself.

As much as I don't like Sticks79, I'd thought I'd post two links.

The Beautiful Truth
Stupidity caught on celluloid: The Beautiful Truth : SciencePunk

I looked over these and I think it's more crap.

If cancer can be caused solely by diet, how do you explain 4 and 5 year olds that get it?

While I agree many research companies are corrupt, and the pharm industry is even more corrupt, without some kind of research we go nowhere. I'd be happy to know some of the donations reach companies that give a shit and will crack the cancer cure eventually.

The money raised through Livestrong and other foundations doesn't just go to research, it also goes towards treatment. I'm not talking about drugs, I'm talking about actually helping to pay the bills to hospitals, for loss of work and other things. Anyone who has been affected by, or knows someone who has been affected by cancer knows what a strain it can put on friendships, family and $$$. Cancer is not cheap.

So I suppose you would see no difference in your life span having cancer back in the 1900s as opposed to present day? I have several family members who are alive today because of cancer research.

$1175 is what I ended up raising, finished the ride 96+ miles (they say 100 but it's mapped out to 95, plus stops and turnarounds) in just over 7 hours Sunday. Work on Monday was a bit slow for me.

Thanks! In my book, it's a century, I'll fight anyone who says that wasn't, lol. I saw the sun, felt the heat, got rained on, dealt with the roads steaming after the rain and all the humidity along with it. I'm glad I could help the cause out in the end though.

dude, good luck, i love biking, and the fact that your giving up 100 miles of your life to a cause is great!

however, i think that the industry wants more treatment than cure.

what would pharma's do without disease?
