I'm running a campaign right now in Yahoo and a little confused as to the importance of "long tail" words. Here is my issue: I'm running "Weight Loss" on Advanced Match. When I search for "Weight Loss Benefits" my ad shows up. Why would I even bid on "Weight Loss Benefits"?

Would I get lower bid prices if I bid on "Weight Loss" and "Weight Loss Benefits" as Standard Match?

yahoo advanced match corresponds to google standard match (with no brakets) so the keyword will match any search term that has weight loss in it

use standard match and find better keywords

are you running a campaign with a single keyword?
is that keyword 'weight loss'?

in this case you should read here and there on wickedfire...you can benefit from every discussion, including boobs threads

I've read a lot on here and trying to implement it finally. I have read in some instances to start with "Weight Loss" on broad match, and I will be searched for on "weight loss benefits" "weight loss tips" "weight loss help" etc and be able to find what is being searched/converting from there. Then, I can dig down and develop long(er) tails based on that information.

Yes, one campaign has "weight loss" as the word. This morning on Advanced match I got 10% CTR with it (position 3-4). Hit budget early so it's done for now. I also have another campaign with "buy weight loss", "weight loss help", "weight loss benefits" etc and the CTR is about 5% but I'm not really seeing any conversions.

I've turned campaign 1 back and forth on Advanced/Standard and the results are usually similar (although get more traffic (untargetted) on Adv).

When you say "use standard match and find better keywords" you mean to only run campaign 2 instead of the broad "weight loss" campaign? It's producing the best results for me so far (maybe that's cuz my c2 kws blow?)

I've done so much reading and haven't really made anything for myself. I keep reading how to do it, but I've only gotten lucky on one campaign. I'm really trying to build something that works and the wheels are spinning, but I'm not going far.

For some reason I also get more impressions and less clicks on my "buy weight loss" type kws. Are they just super shitty? I have tried to think in "buyer mode" for kws, but I've come up with everything I can think of...
