Been looking at the affiliate marketing sector for some time and really want to narrow my focus to media buying.

Looking to pay the right person to spend some time with me going over the basics and getting me to a point where I am ready to start my first campaign.

I make a living online already so shouldn't be much of a stretch. Just looking for someone who enjoys helping others and I will pay him/her to help me get started.

Please contact me if you are interested. Thanks!

Also interested in any resources anyone can recommend for the same type of thing.

Here I'll give you your first lesson for free - stop offering to pay anyone. It will dramatically decrease the quality of information you get.

When you offer to pay the only people you will attract are the ones that can't make money media buying so they've got to come charge you some money to pay their bills. Pretty much anyone willing to take what you can pay is very unlikely to know what you want to learn. Funny how that works right?

See the thing is the guys that have the knowledge you want don't sell mentor products or mess around with charging a hourly rate to help others. They'd have to charge over $1,000/hr to make it worth while.

The interesting thing though is they will do it for free. The most valuable information you will find on internet marketing isn't something anyone is charging for - it's given out for free pretty much.

Trying to bring money into the equation just doesn't work. It's the same reason when you go over to a dinner party you don't bring cash but instead a bottle of wine. If you do bring cash all you do is insult the host. That's what you are doing here with offering money.

Your best bet is to figure out some people you want to meet then attempt to meet them at conferences ect. Offer to take them out for a free lunch or dinner because you'd just love to meet and talk to them. There are quite a few people that won't turn down a free lunch from an "admirer" but would turn down $300/hr for a coaching session.

Edit: Any easy example is BigWill right there. He's dropped some great knowledge for free on this forum but I doubt he took much interest in doing paid coaching for you.

Good advice, thanks for your input. I looked at a lot of the free advice here and it wasn't quite what I was looking for. Also not a big fan of getting anything for nothing so it didn't hurt to offer. I did get a lot of the help I was looking for though, but could always use more if anyone is interested.

OP, be inquisitive.

The beauty of forums is that there is an active person behind a username that posts the "free advice", unlike blogs or random "How to" sites with an MIA author behind them.

Another important aspect is the fact that this forum, in particular, has people who've excelled in a lot of sub-sections of IM. Search engine rankings, PPC, Social, Site building, Brand building, Atypical traffic building, Community building, Product Sales, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Programming - you name it.

Usually when a person posts, their experience can be seen through their topics. When someone creates a thread, he or she is usually glad to answer queries. You can usually ask your questions in the thread itself or add the user on Skype or through email.

Heck! Go ahead and open a thread with all your queries and watch as the responses pour in. Remember the "What have you done about it?" concept. You need to motivate people to reply. You need to tell them about the "action" you have already taken. You need to show that you are curious and are willing to learn. You need to make others realize that their time is not wasted on you.

Read - What have you tried? - Matt Gemmell - It is a site that was built as a reply to people posting programming related questions across various message boards and asking others to practically write their code for them.

The concept of having a mentor doesn't work, atleast in the context of a non-beginner IM. Sure, if you were an individual who knew how to use a computer and was looking to make some money online - it'd be easy finding someone who'd show you the ropes of beginner level site building, adsense/CPA and other modes of revenue generation. However, you are way past that and thankfully so.

Ask lots of questions. And they will be answered. Not immediately, but definitely.

Cheers

ok so to be more specific, I am just starting out. Have an idea of the vertical I want to be in. Looking to find offers now, and I've seen people suggest a wide variety of affiliate networks to join. I sign up but get no action because I don't have experience. Seems like a chicken/egg type situation to me.

So how do you guys recommend I get around this?

You call them up and they'll take you in. There are also networks that don't require you have any experience (peerfly and clickbank for example).

A little thing called networking will get you a long way here. Wickedfire is frequented by affiliate managers and owners of various networks. Off the top of my head, I can say we have Eli from AAO, Smaxor from A4D and we have Matt from Leadflash.

Talk to people. Initiate a conversation. And as your relations blossom, you will find that people will be more than willing to take you in. Help you, guide you, answer your queries.

Get above the adsense thought process, where you sign up, place code on your website and start making money. Think of signing up to an affiliate network like a business collaboration. You talk to the network, you tell them what you can bring to the table and they in turn allow you to become their affiliate.

Like JoseArmando said above, every network worth its salt placed a contact number on their sign up page. Fill out the form and make the call. Tell them that you're new, but also tell them what you're willing to do. Talk to them about the verticals that interest you and how you plan on approaching your business plans. Set up a few landing pages/affiliate websites and show it to them. You'd be surprised at their willingness to work with you after that.

Stop thinking affiliate marketing and start thinking business.

You can start a business in affiliate marketing. But if you think of affiliate marketing as the goal and not a means to a goal, you won't last long IMHO.

This. A "real" mentor is just that, someone who mentors because they are trying to give back/teach you what someone may have once taught them. Otherwise you're just hiring a consultant.

I have tried one paid mentorship, and it ended up really bad (for me). I'm not saying that paying for knowledge is bad, in fact it's nothing wrong with this and sometimes it's neccesery to create possibility to meet people we want (like paying for private forums memberships etc.). Anyway, there always is some kind of currency involved, most likely it's commitment and responsibility. For me it's all about being ready to make a next step. People who are higher than we, who already done it, they see where we are and what we can do at that particular moment in time. My point is, to not to waste other peoples time.

Shit, hit me up on Friday night after I have a few cocktails and I'll blab your ear off for free. If I'm really drunk I'll break down my whole business model and tell you about how I make 3 figures per month.

Yeah but does somewhere cheap like the Mesquito Grill work? If you're expecting some Knight House or Freight House shit you may be a little too classy for me.
