need some advice from Mac guys.

My MacBook Pro has been having really slow internet connection lately. It's not my networks, because I have no issues with other laptops and I'm having the same issue on more than 1 network. It's been a couple of days now and it seems like it just started out of nowhere. Pages take forever to load and even time out, ftp uploads are extremely slow. I converted from being a Windows user to a Mac and love it, but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot stuff on a mac.

Here's some specs:
It's a 17" MBP with i7 quad core, 256gb ssd + 750gb hd for storage, 16gb ram, and I've upgraded to os X maverick when it came out.

Any suggestions?

What year is your MBP ? 2010 ? I'm guessing newer if you are rocking 16gb of RAM.

Anything crazy going on in your Activity Monitor?

Do you see a process named kernal_task using 100s of MB of memory?

It's a late 2011
and yes, I see the kernal_task and it's using 1.22 GB of memory.

What is that and what's causing it?

fust ran permissions repair, no change

I have full bars for signal strength on my wifi
yahoo just loaded for me no problem, then went to load some other sites, nothing at all. status bar says "looking for google.com"
won't load

Do you use multiple monitors? What apps do you have open that might be hogging a lot of resources?

I recently started having this same problem. my kernal_task is consuming 800MB+ of memory. It is a total shit show. You cant just go in and kill the PID & rebooting doesnt fix the issue.

From what i've read it could be a lot of things. Your gfx card // fan dead inside // need to update a plugin you have // software update.

I personally started having issues after unplugging my 2nd monitor from my laptop and shutting my laptop. When I opened my laptop up next, it was slow as heck and kernal_task hogging up everything.

I've have yet to figure out how to fix this :\ I am on the verge of taking it into the Apple store.

no multiple monitors on this machine. photoshop was using 1gb, and firefox using about 360, but I closed photoshop and all software is up to date.
no other issues with the machine, just not connecting to the internet for some reason.

just a side note, imovie asked me to update a few weeks ago and I updated it to the current version.
then a few days later it said it needed to update again (but to the same version)
so in my updates, it says I've updated to to the latest version and it also says I need to update to the latest version.

I have the same problem, have to reboot once a day. Fucking obnoxious.

I run 3 external monitors, but the problem happens with or without them.

Do you have Mackeeper installed?

no, and since it won't connect to the internet, I can't download it either.

edit: just looked to see what it was and appears to be malware. I've never installed it.

everything about the computer appears fine. wifi icons shows full strength, I'm connected to my network, but I have no internet
Same in both of my offices

My iphone is connected to the same network and is pulling internet as well as all my windows laptops in the office.

Here is some stuff I found on Apple's discussion forums. Give them a whirl:

What I did was as follows:
Open: System Preferences>>Network

At the left, there should be a pane listing ways in which your computer connects to the internet (Ethernet, VPN, AirPort, etc.)

At the bottom of this pane there are (+)(-)(cog) buttons that correspond to (add method)(remove method)(other options dropdown)

Highlight: Airport and hit - to remove.
Immediately hit + and choose AirPort (on mine it is default) for the interface type.
Click: Create

That somehow allowed my AirPort to fully connect again.
I turned my firewall off and was able to connect to the internet. My IP addresses for the various connections have now automatically reset.
Change your router channel. Sometimes this is all you will have to do.

Power cycling the router. Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.

System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network

Unlock the padlock

Locations: Automatic

Highlight Airport

Click the Assist Me button

In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.

System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock. Highlight Airport. Network Name-select your name. Click on the Advanced button. Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.

Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined." Click the OK button and lock the padlock. Restart your computer.

Mac OS: How to release and renew a DHCP lease Mac OS: How to release and renew a DHCP lease

No internet connection (wireless)

Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).

Delete all extra entries that you find.

Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

10.9 gives me more wifi problems than any other version of OSX. It's flaky at best on my 11" MB Air. It could be hardware but I doubt it. Just my experience, hopefully they fix this garbage in the .1 or .2 releases due out soon.

Just took it to the local mac repair shop. He said the same as Jizzlobber, need to replace the wifi card.
