Any watchers? I just started watching last week and am on S1 episode 9 (on Netflix streaming for anybody that hasn't seen it).

I can't help but think that in a way affiliate marketers are kind of future "ad men", so it's that parallel that keeps me going through the somewhat bland storyline. The acting is solid and the filmmaking is done really well, which makes it a lot more enjoyable.

And does that shit not make you want to smoke cigs and drink scotch like a champion?

My only critique (so far) is that I think they could make it a little more dramatic. I want to see some blood, but maybe that's just because I've been watching a lot of Dexter.

I'm not hear to Kaboki --

It gets a lot more dramatic starting in the second season and moving into the third.

You have to have an appreciation for what you're watching though: Mad Men is a feminist fantasy of how men are punished for their misbehavior, and how the women who are complicit in their behavior are punished too (Compare what happens to Joan to what happens to Peggy). The lengths they were willing to stretch suspension of disbelief to prove that bad things happen to males gets a little weak at times, and the smugness annoyed me a lot in the early seasons. However, it's a good show with strong characters and a compelling story, so: Enjoy.

I just started watching it recently as well, awesome show....bring on the scotch and non filters!!

I watched a few seasons but I wasn't into the non-ad side of it. The wives at home etc. Got bored. Will probably get back into it soon. But with Breaking Bad, Entourage and Weeds started up again, and Sons of Anarchy back next month I doubt I will ;p

so.... are you ever going to respond to this?

Some interesting theories here but none that I picked up on from watching the series.

Can you expand on the topic of 'smugness' you mentioned?

My coworker was just saying that we should start drinking scotch all day at work like they do. We got the bar but no scotch :( I've been wanting to watch Mad Men but I'm worried that my girlfriend will think that I'm like Don Draper and I don't want to give her any more ideas.
