Mainstream vs. Adult - Similarities & differences in affiliate marketing

I joined WF in hopes of expanding my knowledge in the area of Affiliate Marketing and have found this forum a welcome change from :321:

Having worked the adult side of the internet for almost 5 years now and seeing just about every possible type of affiliate marketing being used... I started to think about what type of methods do the mainstream affiliate programs use and what can I learn from them.

If there's anyone here with any first hand experience working both sides could you point out some of the major differences?

Was beginning to think that may just be one big sausage fest here but guess what... I just got some good info from your sig that I can use so "Thanks"!

First thing I did when I joined WF was read the actual rules page as I always do before engagement on any new forum. I love the fact that you guys are not afraid to use the ban hammer and keep the spammers out.

Now back to the topic... anyone?
 
the biggest thing i've noticed is that shaving/scrubbing is accepted in mainstream, but you'll be flogged alive if caught doing such a thing in adult.

Not really. Everyone knows it happens and has happened since day 1. If you don't you're completely delusional.
 
Compared to adult there's more traffic sources and better conversions. There's also thousands of ways to make the money. And you can actually tell people what you do. lol

In adult there are only a few ways to make money, and a few sources of traffic to worry about. If you were in the biz for 5 years then you already know each source. Adult is much less stress in that regard, but it also limits you.

Wickedfire is similar to GFY in the signal to noise ratio. The members here have much thicker skin than those on most other boards.

DP and WarriorsF are like AWI and Cozy Frog.

Do some research, pick a traffic lane and stay in it.

Unlike adult, there's a lot of blogs that can help you understand what's going on. Check out Affbuzz.com.
 
I see mainstream CPA networks moving more and more into adult, we started adding a bunch of offers for that niche personally. I've messed around with it as an affiliate myself for years now (promoting tgp's, etc).

All I know is that the adult industry is a lot shadier than other industries.
