I'm not particularly interested in a software recommendation or anything, but more of a system for keeping shit straight + safe.

Right now I use 1password on my Mac, but I avoid using super complicated passwords for simple shit like Amazon or something--but more complicated passwords for hosting/email/etc. This really isn't ideal or the safest way to do things, but I don't know a better alternative.

Just wondering if anyone here has any particular "system" for keeping stuff managed and safe. For example, do you use software that syncs passwords between a device (like an iPhone) and your computer or do you have a schedule for changing passwords at certain times of the year? Stuff like that.

Just looking for something a bit more logical than what I have now, which is keeping all my passwords in one program on my Mac and referencing it when I need to.

Good Trick:

Make a set of rules for your passwords based on the domain name.

Example: Last 4 Letters backwards then forwards, last one caps, followed by an underscore, than total characters + 3

Hotmail would be: liammaiL_10

Maybe just something simple like a google doc. You need to remember your PASSWORD to get into the account but then you can have all your passwords in one place and google is pretty damn secure. The only problem with Google is that if they want to find out what you have in the cloud they can.

no problems with lastpass, been using it for close to a year. syncs perfectly between laptop, desktop, and android. before that I was rocking spreadsheets - what a royal pain in the ass that was.

I tried all this shit, and lastpass with a yubikey is da shizz, one than one device all synced with my logins and i can set it up to logout on idle amd i need to use my pass + enecryption key to get back in

I have been using Pocket to manage all sorts of information. There's a cross-platform .jar desktop version. Syncs with Dropbox too.

I rented out the billboard across the street from my place and put all my passwords on it... No one knows what it is though; all my passwords are just parts of this ad promoting the local dentist.

As a side benefit, that dentist is really happy with me and I got some free fillings done recently.

True story.

Use Roboform, works like a charm.. I know you don't want software but then again, Roboform is protected with it's own password so it is pretty safe. Plus you can put up notes.
