Holy shit I never knew he was fluent in Japanese.

I always like MF's style. He was fast as hell, but he used really cool exotic modes that made his solos stand out from all the other shredders of the day.

On a technique related note, when you watch close ups of really fast players like him, you notice that the index finger really doesn't move position very much through the quick runs. I've never been a fast player, but watching MF and other speed demons, it seems like they use their index finger as the anchor for a position and then work around that. Maybe it's just on the legato stuff.
