Merchant Looking for a Good Network

Nice try, but failed. Don't belittle me. Try this:
  • Glenn D. Tiffert: "After picking up the products at MacWorld SF, I've been asking IRIS tech support for nearly 2 weeks without success. They keep saying they'll set up a ftp for me and never seem to get around to it."
This is EXACTLY my experience too. And no, I'm not Glenn. Bought it at Macworld, they didn't have the right software, but promised to email me a download link - and never did. I tried to get it to work with the included software and only crashed my computer hard a few times. There aren't many apps that manage to do that on a Mac. That thing has been sitting around useless ever since. See pic. Anyone need a cheap IrisPen? Will take first offer!
  • Fabian Fang: "I feel honored that ... I did receive a relatively prompt e-mail confirmation. The fact that, two weeks later, I have yet to receive the product, is something else, I guess."
  • Joe Wicentowski: "Here's my convoluted experience purchasing and installing the IRISPen ... having spent a few hours just installing the darn thing,"
  • kerasmus76: "Yes, It's amazing how disorganized they are."
  • JackT: "We couldn't make the readiris9/asian work because we followed the incorrect installation instructions exactly."
  • Andrew Main: "In days I finally received a shipment from IRIS, but it contained the wrong product. For now I am the proud owner of an IRIS Business Card Reader for Macintosh, for which I have no use. Don't say that Heather did not warn us about their ineptness."
  • Heather Collins: "I also have a dark gray pen and a light gray pen. I need to find out which one is best. I have these because two out of three items were shipped wrong.",
    "The installation documentation is wrong.",
"I think they are desperate for sales and cash flow and that's why the documentation is so poor."
Granted, these are dated, but the Yahoo list I got the quotes from closed in 2006, so I stopped following it. You can find newer IRIS tales of horror at their new Google group if you care looking.

Why am I not surprised that you now seek the company of Acai pill slingers and get-rich-quick pushers who you'll never hear from again after they took your cash? Seems like you fit right in here!

You know why other tech companies like Apple came back from near extinction and now kick everyones ass in the market place? Not because they have the most affiliates and the highest commissions (where's the Apple affiliate program?), but because they make innovative, first-class products that work. Because they invest their high margins instead in R&D, design and, yes, support!

I emailed with Jeremie Sala and Jean-Marc Fontaine (guy who sold me this junk) as late as Dec 2008. You really think you can actually find someone who cares?

BTW, wanna make more money than you'll ever make at IRIS? I have a great plan I can send you - make $11,384 a month working for Google only three hours a day posting links!! Get my plan for free, just pay $1.99 shipping, hahaha!

I did not attempt to belittle you nor did I "try" anything. I even offered to put you in contact with a manager in spite of your obscene juvenile comment.

That is an older version of the pen and we have brand new hardware and software for the 6th iteration of the pen which has been out for 5 years. That said, most reviews and internet messages about a specific product or company are going to be negative. Very rarely does one feel compelled to run and tell everyone what a wonderful experience they had with a product. I understand your position and recognize that an international company that does $150 million in business each year is bound to irk some customers and have some people fall through the cracks. In an ideal world every customer would be happy and give rave reviews but that is not reality. I am confident I can pull up a whole host of negative reviews about the iPhone or any other device, that's just the name of the game.

I empathize with your difficulty in obtaining support for that product and the department is undergoing changes. The only thing I can do is relay the message to the tech support manager and have one of them call you. That product may not be compatible with your OS but its worth a shot. Since you still have everything needed to operate the pen allow one of our representatives to walk you through getting it up and running. PM me your contact info and I will have some contact you.

I want to conclude that my intention is not to sell pens or even promote my company on this website. I came here as an individual doing research on how best to increase my numbers using affiliate networks and garner advice from this community. I respect your position but hijacking my thread to go on a rant about a publicly traded company that has no relevance to my topic is a waste of all our times. You are entitled to do what you want but your "gotcha" moment is misplaced.

Disagree.
  1. You got your answer already, so the purpose of your thread is fulfilled. Go to CJ.
  2. Since you essentially suggest your publicly traded company as a potential business partner to networks and affiliates, it would only make sense for those parties to know how said publicly traded company conducts itself in business. To hear about "ineptness", lack of communication, "amazing how disorganized they are" is by no means irrelevant or a waste of time for any potential partners.

True in general, but not in this case. Comments above are from a relatively small email list of linguists (about 120 members at the time) that I was a member of. The whole purpose of that list was to exchange ideas and solutions that made life easier for us. People didn't come there to rant. On the contrary, many great products were recommended and endorsed by members who - wouldn't you believe it - felt "compelled to run and tell everyone what a wonderful experience they had with a product."

For some reason though, almost everyone who dealt with IRIS on that list came away disappointed. Again, mind you, those comments were almost all about the conduct and support of your publicly traded company (why am I so impressed by this?), not so much about the scanner itself, which seemed to work ok for those who finally got it to work somehow.

The only thing I can do is relay the message to the tech support manager and have one of them call you.
I will PM you on that, although I have little hope if not even your Director of Sales and Operations could get your tech support manager to send me the right software.

I have to add that after my little rant above and PMs exchanged, I did get a download link to the old IRIS software from the same tech support person who never bothered replying to my emails over the course of 4 or 5 years. Amazing how a more public forum can change things so quickly! Haven't tried the software yet as I don't currently have an urgent need for the pen, but anyway, I guess I owe a Trillion Buks!
