Probably shouldn't ask this on a gay webmaster forum but hopefully some of you are straight..

Thinking about going here for the winter music festival at the end of the month. Looks to be just non-stop partying and a lot of young women, which is my kind of vacation..

Anyone been there, or live there? Recommendations for places to stay and/or visit? Generally speaking I find a hotel close to the beach and night clubs and just wing it..

Your best bet is NOT going during the music conference. It's one of the major amateur weeks in Miami. You're better off going during a regular week. less traffic, better rates, better parties and better quality women...it's miami - hot women are EVERYWHERE.

Depending on your scene I reccomend either the the Fontainebleau or the Setai.

Fontainebleau - Good if you're looking for an all day party scene. Good beach, great pools, Djs, bars, lots of activity all day everyday. One of the best night clubs in Miami right in the lobby. All of South beach clubs/dining is just a 5 minute cab ride south also.

Setai - better for relaxing during the day. Quiet pools, very high end amenities, beautiful building and great for walking around during the day. 10 minute walk will get you into the heart of everything.

Personally I prefer the Setai becuase it's more relaxed and I can walk around South Beach a bit easier. But if you're looking for better parties Fontainebleau is a better bet.

Women are top notch anywhere. Trannys pretty good too so all of WF can find something they like.

EDIT: This is WMC (Winter Music Conference)

If you're going to go to Miami, Miami Music Week would be the best week to go.. ULTRA is awesome, even more awesome under the influence of ecstasy. If you're willing to blow a little money, stay on Miami Beach, there are tons of tourist hoes there.

Excellent information, appreciate it. Sounds like Fontainebleau is the place. I was thinking I'd go during WMC just to be sure it was busy and there was plenty of women around but sounds like that's always the case.. any recommendations for the best time of year?

This time of year is what would be considered "season". Its our winter now, first cold night in a couple of weeks - id say about 55 degrees. I live about an hour twenty north of miami, so it may be a little warmer down there when it chills out like this.

Honestly I would say that anytime between now and may is a good time. You get down here june-september you will more than likely wish you had stayed home. Most of the people leave during the summer becuase it is so hot.

There is never a shortage of women or clubs in south beach. some good casinos in ft lauderdale as well

As a local(ish) I would say WMC is a great time to come into town.
Are there better times of year to come, sure, you are going to get a more authentic exprerience if you dont come in the middle of spectacle that is WMC BUT if you hunt you can find AMAZING parties. Great boat parties, great warehouse events, top notch club events.

Personally, as untrendy as it is to admit this, I go to Ultra. I have gone nearly every year. In Miami it is trendy to say you arent going to go to Ultra and then go anyway. Since Ultra is sold out tickets are going to be nuts. If you would rather go somewhere else I would suggest the PVD / Cosmic Gate party at Ice Palace Studios. Club wise, I LOVE Vagabond, you cant go wrong there as far as I am concerned.

Where to stay. I agree with whats already been said but expect LOTS of traffic between the beach and downtown. There are a few workarounds but its a bear either on the north bridge or the south bridge (worse on the south) Personally I am staying at the FB.

Downtown there is a great beer bar called the democratic republic of beer. You should go, its great, good food, great beer.

Food, if you can break away from downtown go to SugarCane, my favorite, its in midtown.

Experience, go to Wynwood, bring a camera. The entire area has some of the best graffiti you will see anywhere in the US. If you can get there on Saturday night you can expect some nightlige. Cafiena is always a safe bet.

Enjoy man. Ohh and dont let anyone fool you even if the grade of women drops slightly during WMC because of the out of towners it only brings the average down from 9.0 to 8.25. You will see more amazing ass across the city and the beach than you can shake a stick at.

Solid recommendation. Some good friends of mine are artists/writers who just had Cafiena's gallery for the month of Janurary right after Art Bazzle.

Word of caution - Wynwood art district while up and coming awesome area does border one of the roughest neighborhoods in Miami - overtown. MAke sure you dont end up lost around there. it can get sketchy quick. if you are into art/street painting/grafiti go down there on a weekend when they have art heart. i think its once a month. the best food trucks youll ever eat off of - dankness

this is my 10th year out of the past 11 going to the WMC... i don't agree with all of the advice in the thread but some of that is personal preference.

I'd skip Ultra... its a rave with a ton of underage kids.

If you just want to party and aren't a huge fan of dance music... no need to go during WMC/MMW... its fun there 52 weeks a year.

As to hotels, i'd recommend the Mondrian, Delano, Shore Club, Victor... a few others are good as well. The Setai is the prob the best hotel there but the tower rooms which are the ones you want are $1k+ a night.

Fountainbleau is really nice... more like a Vegas-style resort but its not in South Beach so you'll be taxing a lot at $20 a pop to SoBe. There is a sweet club called LIV in that hotel though.

also, the biggest/best clubs will be charging $100-$400 cover that weekend to get in and a lot of parties are sold out/will be sold out soon unless you are willing to do bottle service or wait way too long at the door to pay them $$$ to get in.

A few of my recommended parties at WMC:

Luciano pool party and later that night at Space on 3/22
BBC1/Pete Tong at Surfcomber 3/23
Mark Knight/Toolroom Knights at Cameo 3/23
No Sugar Added at Nikki Beach 3/23-3/24

the Bedrock party noted above i'll be at for a bit myself to see Hernan and Marco Bailey...

looks like a great time if you're gay

Was just in Miami and stayed at Fontainebleau. It is not really near the SB clubs, but the pool area is real nice. If you like $25 drinks then stay there, but I bet you can find a lot cheaper places to stay, that are closer to the fun.

I went to the first Ultra back in I think 1999. It was amazing and actually on the beach. Now it's a bunch of kids and people going who want to be cool... more like a circus. My fave part of WMC is the pool parties.

As far as where to stay, you may have a hard time finding anywhere decent this late. I used to live there and still go down all of the time. If you want to PM me what you find I can let you know if its good or not. Personally, I would prefer to stay a little bit out of the SoBe madness, so my first choices would be the Gansevoort or FontianeBleau. If you don't mind at least $400 a night and cab rides every time you want head out...definitely stay there.
