OK, I've been an atheist for most of my life and I don't really believe in all the jesus stuff. Recently, my friend's dad was seriously ill, spent a lot of cash seeking doctors yada yada .. long story short, his dad was cured in the end and he claimed that it was due to the magical powers of Jesus Christ & God..

I'm just wondering, how many of you have really experienced this kinda miracles before? I mean, not your friend's friend, not your friend's relatives but you yourself or maybe someone very close to you?

A long time ago I knew a girl that had a serious heart defect that kept her in and out of hospitals for all her life. Then one time she claimed to have had a vision from God the night before she went to see the doctor, and the next day the doctor told her that the heart problem was gone.

99% of the time it's bullshit though. Those guys you see on TV smacking people in the forehead? Professional con artists.

I believe you can heal yourself in some rare cases due to the power of thought and attitude. We do not yet know the power of our own brains. I heard of studies done where cancer patients had to visualize things like pacman eating their cancer cells or something like that. Over time, many of those patients went into remission so I believe it can be possible - but attributing it to God or spirits helping you through that sounds insane.

If there are any documented cases of it, I would tend to believe they were so positive in their thinking that they actually just saved themselves. I'm sure the 'power of prayer' is really just a physiological affect actually.

I have read that there have been studies of hospital patients who have prayed extensively with family members and church leaders vs. those that did not while in the hospital for treatment of various illnesses. I don't remember the %, but those that prayed had a significantly higher survival rate than those that didn't.

I'm sure a lot of this has to do with the power of thought and having an upbeat attitude.

It happens. I've seen and heard of them. I personally think that attributing miraculous healings to yourself is dumb. What's more likely, your prayers are answered by God with a miracle, or your prayers somehow subconsciously trigger some healing ability that no one is aware we have and you heal yourself? I'd stick with the first one.

These are common occurrences at the church I go to.This video is from a youth group-type get together with a great guy named Ivan Roman who is involved at the church, whose website is www.friendofgod.org.

edit: meh I don't know how to embed it here.

You can easily say that the whole thing is fabricated just like you can go through life denying everything other miracle, and I can't stop you. You can also say that the Big Bang started the world and everything evolved and that there is no God and every miracle is from some untapped source within us or extra terrestrial beings or something else. That's just surely not what I believe.

Let the hate begin...

I see miracle healing as the placebo effect. In some cases, if the patient truly believes he will get better from the faith healing - then they may actually get better. It's the power of the mind.

Do I believe in miracles or a higher power 'answering your prayers'? Lol, of course not.

It's the power of the mind.

Yeah, that's what I believe too. But still, amputees can't grow the limbs back by thinking positively...

My friend now has totally changed and keeps talking about the bible 24/7, it's annoying!! Oh God have mercy! Please give me my buddy back!

I've never seen bigfoot, aliens, ghosts, or a miracle. Doesn't mean they don't exist, but I'd bet my life they don't.

Damn kid, dumbass should have just prayed a little harder:

wow, you realize he was just being ironic to make a point don't you?

He wasn't actually calling the starving kid a dumbass or laughing at him or saying the kid really should have prayed harder or even making fun of the kid's situation. He was mocking people who say all situations can be solved by prayer by giving a situation that obviously can't be solved that way. Overreact a wee bit did we?

ok ok i'm a douchebag & i read understand what he's on about... sorry dude!

(now slap me)

Who else wants to have a very, very intimate relationship with the lord Jesus Christ?
