So just a quick idea for some of you that have purchased older domains that may have links to the old owners content. At first most of your traffic will be coming from those links. So modify your 404 page to redirect them to a page ready to try to squeeze some cash out. Or just throw up some AdSense on your 404 page.

All of the domain parking companies are a joke and total rip-off. It would cost you maybe 100-200 to get a coder on elance or whatever to make you a script that will do what the parking companies do.
Plus you won't have to give them the 50-90% they take as a "comission" for hosting your domain... It's so crazy to see some guys at DNforum or Namepros, showing of some stats of what they make with their parking and proud they seem at times, but if they really think about it they're pretty stupid because they are giving at least half of the possible revenue on the domain away every month by not hosting it themselves.

Miguel,

Maybe you or someone else knows about this. I'm sure I don't understand all I know about it.

How do these domain parking outfits put revenue generating ads on these parked sites from googlesyndication and such without having any content on the sites or getting in the shit with G and AS? Are the ads different in some way from adsnese ads? That's the part I guess I don't understand.

I wouldn't mind doing what you recommend in your post but wouldn't want to lose my AS account over it. I really can't find any meaningful information on it anywhere.

Google has something called Adsense for Domains (iirc) that is made just for parkers.

Can anyone signup to that or do you need hundreds (thousands?) of domains before they would consider you?

I imagine you need lots:

Google AdSense for Domains - Frequently Asked Questions

If you have an old domain you bought... go to archive.org and pull out the content from cache.

or check your log files and see what the 404 pages are ... then 301 them to money pages.

You can't put adsense on a 404... against TOS.

and if you are getting traffic to old pages, it's most likely coming from old incoming links to the site. The 301 will pass the link-juice to your new pages.
