Does anyone else who advertises on FB get these self righteous gimps smugly complaining about their ads the whole time?

As if advertising is inherently evil (as they sit on their couch with their Nike logo tracksuit on, eating chips, watching the ads whilst waiting for american idol to come on TV).

I sometimes reply when their messages are particularly retarded. See some recent examples:

This was in my timeline and not under the 'Sponsored' column. It is unsolicited and therefore spam and shows your business is on the same level as a fake viagra peddler.

Hey there, thanks for the message. If you don't want to see sponsored posts my advice would be to block the page. I would also recommend you disconnect from the Internet and wear dark sunglasses so as not to see any ads on buses or logos on tshirts.

This is how Facebook works and how they pay their bills so you can use their service for free.

Many thanks for the useful feedback.

Oh, a nice sarcastic answer, very professional. I'll let the thousands of people over at the facebook page campaigning against suggested posts know about your reply.
As I said, if your ad is in the 'Sponsored' column then there is no problem, it's when it invades the newsfeed that people take issue. I told suggest a quick look at Is Facebook Advertising Worthwhile for Small Businesses?

You sent a message about viagra, what did you expect?

If you don't like it, block the page. I'm using Facebook ads and that's how they work and you will carry on seeing ads from others, if you don't like Facebook ads you shouldn't use Facebook. Or create your own site that has no ads and pay for all the servers yourself.

Just block the page or hide it.

You're targeting a demographic of millions of people. And your medium (Facebook in this case) is known for experimentation.

I've talked about entitlement and user-dependency in my earlier posts. This is what is happening here.

People spend hours on FB everyday and then fall under the illusion of entitlement in relation to the site.

User-dependency is another factor. The entire business model of facebook depends on their userbase. The niche they are in at the moment has had a history to crash and burn with time.

So if a user complains about something, they have to listen. They have grown TOO BIG, TOO FAST and are a community of 'over active' developers which brings in strange algorithms from time to time. Some (most) don't stick with the users or rather are shoved
down their throats (Timeline, Chat integration with sidebar etc.) and now the "Suggested Page" thing. So if given an option, them voicing their concerns is natural.

As a brand or an advertiser though, you didn't really have to reply in such an aggravated manner. In fact, you didn't have to reply at all. If the user would've shown persistence in getting a reply, a simple "We apologize that you didn't find our ad useful." would've sufficed.

Yeah that would be the sensible option, I normally do that, but sometimes I just see these guys and go...wow..you're a cretin and feel the need to tell them.

I am one of those facebook spam haters. I log in a couple times a week and hate to see all those spam messages, not the place for it.
