So MTV released their 10 hottest MCs in the game list the other day and it goes like this:

1. Jay-Z
2. Lil Wayne
3. Drake
4. Kanye
5. Rick Ross
6. Gucci Mane
7. Young Jeezy
8. Fabolous
9. 50 Cent
10. Raekwon

... and they left out Eminem. Why? Their full explanation here: Why Isn't Eminem In The Hottest MCs Top 10? - News Story | Music, Celebrity, Artist News | MTV News

Eminem is one of the best ever on the mic. His track record is undeniable. The Hottest list deals with right now, though. If the Brain Trust had compiled the Hottest list back in May, there's no doubt Eminem would have made the Top 10.
How is Rick Ross even on the list then... since Deeper Than Rap was released one month prior to Relapse and Rick Ross hasn't made any noise since then. And Raekwon??? I guess Eminem having the biggest hip hop release of the year and the hottest verse on Forever doesn't count for anything haha.

Here's Jay-Z's letter to MTV:
MTV, Thanx for this nod of appreciation. Although I don’t strive to be ‘hot’ for any particular year, I thank you for the acknowledgment. My whole goal is to be recognized as the best ever. I created the term ‘best rapper alive’ as a sign of respect to my fallen comrades (Biggie and Tupac). I believe I’ve allowed a significant grace period, and I believe I would not be respecting myself if being the absolute best was not my goal, and that’s why I continue to push myself until exhaustion … salute.

“Sidebar: Kanye moment if I may … Eminem?!?! I think you do the credibility of this list a disservice if you don’t thoroughly explain his omission. As of this second he has the highest selling rap album of the year and a scene stealing verse on the best ‘posse’ cut of the year . (*Hands mic back to Taylor Swift … and nobody was harmed, I apologize in advance.)

Hottest in the game right now...

It makes sense.. I though it was lryical... Gucci is fucking trash, but his shit is catchy..

Im surprised soldjah boy aint on there..

How the fuck is drake on there with no album?? thats crazy.

I'd put E-40 at the top of that list any day. That guy spits game and get's no recognition compared to those douches

I'll agree with jay being at number one, Blue Print 3 every track on there was just straight fire. Great full rounded album. As for the insults directed at Raekwon, you sir have no idea about good hip-hop. Raekwon is a genius, he is in wu-tang composed of some of the best lyricist in the game imo.

What you really need to look at is why is Gucci Maine, and Lil Wayne so high up on the list? There are plenty of good up and coming rappers that deverse a spot up there. And Rick Ross, are you kidding me? 50 killed this fool.

The title of the list is FAIL to start off with. I agree with #1, the rest is shit.

The only good rap these days is the west coast underground shit.
Aceyalone, etc

They say that they put a lot of emphasis on things beyond the actual music - endorsing products, internet presence, etc. Yet I doubt they considered MC Hammer. He has his own reality show, Cash4Gold ads, 1.5 million twitter followers, and was a guest speaker on social media marketing at Harvard.

STOP!
