Curious to see how everyone's brain works.

I myself need some good tunes to get into a groove when I'm really grinding on a project.

I know other people who can't listen to music while working because it distracts them.

When working I use euro-trash music and use the pomodoro technique. It also helps me if I've heard the music a few times because it keeps my brain from paying attention.

For me, it depends on what the task is.

I find myself switching music on and off throughout the day. When I need to really concentrate or think, then usually the music has to go.

If I am grinding out some boring tasks then ya music is awesome to help with the push.

I never could study or read while listening to music. I find music very distracting, probably because I love it so much, and also because I studied it for so many years that it's very hard for it be just a "background" thing for me.

If the project requires concentration then I'll listen to either classical, instrumental bands like Ratatat, Holy Fuck, Black Moth Super Rainbow, or something foreign like Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes or Serge Gainsbourg.

Quoting from Wiki "The music was designed to be continuously looped as a sound installation, with the intent to diffuse the tense, anxious atmosphere of an airport terminal. Eno conceived this idea while being stuck at Cologne Bonn Airport in Germany in the mid-1970s. He had to spend several hours there and was extremely annoyed by the uninspired sound atmosphere"

Depends on the task at hand. Programming I find music really helps me get into the zone, but if I come up to something complex, I end up turning the music off.

I also struggle to listen to music when I'm writing copy.

Usually listen to funky house or something a bit more mellow/loungy/jazzy. I follow about 250 DJs and producers on SoundCloud and usually just queue up hour+ sets of theirs. Mr Scruff's live sets are great because they cover a wide gamut of music and are 5+ hours long. If anyone wants to follow what I follow on SoundCloud, add me as "Fatbat".

If I listen to Sinatra I can leave it alone and get shit done, if I listen to contemporary music I start bouncing around too much... muse > imagine dragons > papa roach > the gaslight anthem > alkaline trio > matt skiba and the sekrets > a day to remember > in flames > five finger death punch > slipknot > stone sour > bullet for my valentine > breaking benjamin > social distortion > the clash > the rolling stones, etc...
Wouldn't be so bad if I let whole albums play instead of just hitting favorites from each, too much context shifting.

Edit: need an option for Yes (it is distracting)
