Books in the Supernatural/Horror Genre to be exact.

I devore them, which is unfortunate as usually that means I'm done with the book within in a day or two and then am left feeling a little sad that it's over.

Why am I telling you this? Well I've reached a point where I'm looking for some more really good authors as I've seem to reach a stopping point. I know they're out there and I know there have to be some wf horror book junkies out there so...Give it up...what do you recommend?

To be fair I'll list some of my favs.

I've read most or all by:

Richard Laymon (You have to check this guy out, almost every one of his books are a read-till 4 in the morning types. Although watch out, he's pretty gory) **Top fav: The Traveling Vampire Show and Body Rides
Stephen King **top fav: It and The Stand
Dean Koontz (been reading him since I was a kid, he's gotten kind of lame in recent years, but he has some goodie oldie ones like Lighting and Watchers)
Charlotte Harris She writes the Southern Vampire Series. Her genre is more supernatural mystery thriller. She spins a good yarn and has a lot of wit, which I adore. She's another that I will likely finish the book in the same day.
Christopher Pike He writes for young adults and adults. Of course now I just read the adult books. I just read his latest Fallen and it was pretty damn good. Highly recommended.
John Saul He's ok. Real easy read but most of his stories all take the same tone and have pretty much the same depressing endings (even in horror stories we sometimes want a sorta happy ending!)
Christopher Moore- WF lovers must check out this guy! He's wacked! but really funny and usually tells a good if not highly unusual and somewhat perverse story. Check out: The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror.
Clive Barker Most of you know him as the creator of the Hellraisers. He's more of a Fantasy/Horror writer and sometimes he gets a little too out there for me, but he's good and he's scary. I've only read a couple of his and it was like 15 years ago, so if any one wants to recommend some newer ones feel free.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. So please add your favorites to the list. I'd like to have a good carefree read for the plane ride to Vegas!

I would recommend H. P. Lovecraft. He mostly wrote short stories but they are very good.

from wikipedia :

Many later figures were influenced by Lovecraft, including author and artist Clive Barker, prolific horror writer Stephen King, film directors John Carpenter and Stuart Gordon, game designers Sandy Petersen and Keichiro Toyama, horror manga artist Junji Ito, and artist H. R. Giger.

if you like stephen king may i recommend the dark tower series. It's quite a bit different than It and The Stand but by far his best work (and i'm a big fan so thats not a lightly made statement).

Fear Street - R.L. Stine!

How scary and horrific!! AHHHH!

I'm hooked on The Horus Heresy - Warhammer 40,000.

I have no interest in the game whatsoever, I just REALLY love the books.

Also The Eisenhorn books (Xenos, Malleus and Hereticus), and the Ravenor Books (Ravenor, Ravenor Returned and Ravenor Rogue).

Whatever, Jon. Knowing how much you just love the Horror genre, someone even as LAME as RL Stine would probably have you whimpering under the covers! :-P

I'll second that - but when you get to the end DO NOT READ THE ENDING :(
King even warns you to "stop" reading at a certain point. No reason to as you know you just won't be able to not read the ending.

King wrote the DT series over his entire life. All his books lead back to it in minor ways. His best work along with the castle rock interweavings.

"The Stand" by King = one of the best epic's of all time. Movie adaptation (although lame at points) was actually pretty well done too.

I know. I read the first 3 or 4 books in the series. They were fantastic. Problem is, that was all there was at the time (this was about mid '90s) Now I can't remember enough about them to pick up where I left off. I guess I should just start over.

I've always loved how he intertwines his books it's like a hat tip to his fans.

King is an anomaly. He writes such different books, one from the other. I've had a theory for a while that there are multiple people that write under the King name. Pure speculation, but he's so damn versatile, it's hard to believe one person can have that broad a spectrum.

Eli, I think you would like The Stand.

Turbolapp.

You need to check out Terry Goodkind. He's in the fantasy genre; But I'm sure you'll love him. I usually don't cater to that particular genre but one day a few years ago was desparate for something to read and since I tend to look at size first (I'm a speed reader and wanted to be entertained longer than the average hour it takes for most books).
His first book "Wizards of First Rule" was excellent. let me tell you not only was I entertained, I couldn't put it down. The characters he developed caused me many a sleepless night. Want Horror...you get it...practically every page.

There's a series of them, and I read most of them 6 or 7 I believe.
