Of his foreign policy. She is a conservative Christian who voted for Bush (and every other Republican). Deep down she supports a war on the Middle East b/c she supports a war on Islam (she won't admit that). And as with most Republicans, she believes that Paul will let Iran create nukes and completely destroy the Middle East (which even though she's anti-Muslim, she's ironically humanitarian here). Her main source of information is Fox and some shitty channel that has 95% women hosting it. She's not completely stupid, but is a good generalization of the voting female public.

Given that this is her only criticism to RPs campaign (and a deciding factor), what can I tell her? I've tried to explain that checks & balances are in place to prevent the Pres from radically destroying the world in a swift move, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Beats my mom, "He's just too old".. However, my whole family definitely paid attention to his views and like his message. They're also really starting to understand how bias the media is. This is pretty awesome progress.

My mom is a lifelong christian republican who only watches fox news.
True story from last election:

Mom: I like that Mike Huck guy he used to be a pastor so he's probably prolife.
Me: Ron Paul used to be a gyno.
Mom: Ooo I like that. He's probably even more pro life then. I'll vote for him.
Me: Herp.

Ask her if its worth the chance of getting her son drafted and losing him to a war for Israel, to vote for Romney.

Or would she rather let Israel handle their own affairs and let our country get back on track?

McCain wouldn't rule out bringing back the draft, and the media hasn't questioned anyone else during this election season. Wouldn't be a stretch that any of these chicken hawks wouldn't consider it an option. I'm sure some baby boomers have the attitude that they were drafted so why should this generation be any different., wouldn't be a hard sell to the older generations.

Or, is it right for me to hire someone to rob a neighbor to help the neighbor down the street if they need the money more? No? Is it alright if I hire two people to rob our neighbors to help the neighbor down the street? Then why is it okay for government to do it, and give it to other countries?

Don't forget to mention, we give five times more aid to Israels enemies. How can we say we're behind Israel if we're helping the people trying to kill them more?

Israel will defend themselves if they need to. They have before with bombing nuclear facilities.

What RP says is that we should not be everyones daddy and take the weapons away to send them into pacifism like Europe is expecting us to stop everything. Israel and Europe should protect their own interests.

If you have already explained to her blow back, the fact that The Military services support Ron Paul etc.. and it still hasn't worked, then maybe you need to approach it differently.

Try to turn the fear argument on it's head and maybe your mom will respond. This is just off the top of my head:

Tell her that the real danger to the United States comes from terrorist groups smuggling a Nuclear weapon into the country and carrying out a nuclear attack. Tell her that because the military is so over stretched, the Government is unable to properly inspect border crossings and port cargo terminals. Tell her that if America really want to be safe and stop the terrorists America needs to bring back the military to safeguard what really is important. Tell her Ron Paul wants to bring the troops home because he is the only one who understands that America is dangerously overstretched at the moment.

it fucking blows my mind that abortion is the most salient issue for a significant segment of the voting population in this country.

If only there was someone like Ron Paul who wasn't a Creationist (and maybe a couple of decades younger) our world could be so much of a better place.

I agree with 99% of what he says, but I just can't get past the creationism bit. I would want someone who was extremely intelligent and believes in ultimate personal responsibility (not a sky daddy) to be running the most powerful country in the world.

But I suppose I would take him over the rest of the other shower of shits any day.

You may like Gary Johnson, although he's out of the republican now. But for me personally I don't mind that he's a christian. I'm an atheist myself but I like that he doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve for the most part.

She voted for Bush eh? Remind her what Bush's foreign policy originally was:

Paul is not a creationist, quit spreading shit that isn't true.

Cummon, the guy is a Christian who has "faith" (read: forget reason). and thinks the Theory of Evolution is "Just a theory", so doesn't quite understand the nature of scientific theory.

I understand why people support him and believe in most of what he says, but people need to stop trying to make him into some kind of "saint" (pun intended) who can do no wrong.

Well while he is a Christian he is not a creationist but even so you are never going to find a candidate that you 100% agree with unless you run yourself. 99% is pretty damn good.

Personally I am a atheist and would vote for him anyway even if said he though the world was only 9k years old and was a creationist just because I know he will take us off this very bad path we are headed down towards a complete police state. Every other candidate is a fascist which makes the choice pretty easy from my point of view. Add in his monetary policy and fiscal policy and you have a winner.

Stop spending money we do not have
Stop the current Crusades we are on and us killing all the little brown people of the world.
Stop the Govt from turning into a fascist police state

We have a trifecta ........Seriously why would you not vote for that no matter what his other faults may be.??

Has Israel sent a single soldier to help in Iraq or Afghanistan?

I hear even Japan, which has no army, has sent people to serve in some roles in these wars.

As far as I am concerned a Christian is a creationist, otherwise they are Christians who don't believe in the bible, which makes no sense.

I agree with you though, as I said he is the best of the other shower of shits and if I was there I would most probably vote for him too.

But my point is that IF he wasn't a Christian and a maybe bit younger he would be the ideal person to really make a difference in the world (not just the US).

The fact that he is a Christian makes him seriously flawed in my mind, so wouldn't be ideal as there is no way his beliefs would not get in the way of some of his political decisions as they are what he believes in and he needs to stick by his beliefs to be a strong leader.

As an atheist I believe that Christians and people of other religions have a fundamental flaw in their thought process and if history shows us anything that is that that one flaw can cause a HUGE amount of pain and misery.
