Checked my email this morning to see about $150 in payment confirmations that I DIDN'T SEND, and 3 emails saying "payment initiated" - each initiated payment was for roughly $250
I freaked out.
I log into my PayPal account, and my balance is the same. Hmm... I check the payment sent history, and I see all 5 unauthorized payments - the 3 big ones had been canceled. My balance didn't change because these were "instant transfers" from my bank account.
Weird thing is, my bank account balance is the same. There is no change in balance, nor any mention of transfers. Unless of course my bank is really slow...

I have changed all my passwords and already contacted PayPal.

Do instant transfers not show up for a while? What should I do in this situation?

You didn't click through to your account thru one of those emails you got, right?

No, I'm not that stupid. The emails were real though... They matched the transactions that are in my account, and they were from service@paypal.com

Oh I forgot to mention too that one of the transactions went to Rapidshare for a premium account. I received an email support@rapidshare.com with a login and pass... I have not tried the account because if it is accessed from my IP that will make getting my money back a challenge.

I am very confused... no money seems to have disappeared...
I already moved the bulk of my funds from my bank account to a different account that is not linked to PayPal, so hopefully no further damage can be done. I changed all my passwords too... Anything else I should do?

I hate Paypal, and wish the networks that use it would stop using it. Did you change your password first thing? I had my account locked up more than once on account of somebody trying to hack it (nothing to do with me).

If it's a business account that you use to process payments through your website, make sure you've removed the paypal payment api examples. ;) I made the mistake of leaving mine up (and had the info tied to my real account), and someone accessed the mass payment form, and put in 3 amounts of $1,000... i logged in and shit myself, I was missing $3,000... after some research, they left service@paypal.com in the email fields to send it to, so I found the transactions and was able to cancel them.

.....whew.

Paypal is quite safe, though it causes some trouble. it looks like your account was hacked, but paypal just caught this fraud before and reversed the money instantly.happened to me,once.

buy the security code token thing. no one can access your paypal unless they have your token.

What you are seeing is batch (pending) activity. Most places hold transactions at least 1 business day before the actual withdrawal occurs; even the ones that say "instant transfer". Cancel that shit quick, like as soon as your bank opens, before they post to your account. At the very worst they may charge you to do stop payments, but if you file a fraud claim, you should get those fees back eventually.
