So I'm looking at starting a Fan/Info site for a popular television show.

The site will focus on being a hub of easter eggs, interviews, embedded episodes streamed from the TV shows own site (still wondering if I should do this), Facts, games, Products and pretty much everything I can find related to the Show.

There is a few things I need advice on:

  • The tools to build this site with - Almost all of my other sites have been done in wordpress but I don't think it would be the right solution here (tons of pages). I'm looking at CMS's like Joomla, Drupal (some say it sucks), Mambo, and some other CMS's. I've also thought about deploying this as a Wiki, but I also have no experience in this or the wiki software to use. It may work fine but I'm not sure if giving community editing ability to the info would be good or bad. I am open to advice on how to build this site out, I also plan to promote primarily through SEO so if you all know which one of these is friendliest to goog please advise.
  • How to Monetize - I've only made any real money from affiliate programs through services like AzAds and Incentaclick. This would be the first time I build out a full content site so I figured their may better way to monetize. I have a YPN (yahoo publisher network) account from back in 2005 and if I remember the hype correctly It pays out great per click. I could also monetize using things like Amazon affilate or Ebay affilate to sell DVD's and other Merc. Can't do adsense, I got the kicked out along time ago. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
  • Any other Advice - Like I said this would be the first big content site I've rolled out besides some blogs, so if you manage a big information site and have any advice I all ears. I'm giving alot of thought to the domain... Also I've considered a forum as part of the site but I think that would be nice for a later date.
I appreciate any advice you are willing to share.

Gateworld.net uses WP.

I would use WP.

It will dominate the Google with ninja se2 optimization.

Also, this doesn't belong in STS.

I appreciate the advice. I'll look into gateworld.... It just seems like what I want to do would be hard to do in the wordpress. For example I can already think of about 300 separate pages, that would be alot to deal with in the WP backend. The more I think about it a wiki sounds good, possibly with user controls to stop the vandals...

I would have to agree with guerilla on WP, as long as you do things right, you can easily dominate serps.

Also, you can either have someone mod it out or mod it yourself to suit you completely.

I know that wp would be great for dominating the serps but when thinking about document management it really becomes a hassle. Wiki's dominate search well too... I'm just leaning against wordpress from the mere fact that controlling hundreds, to possibly thousand of pages in that system would be very difficult.

I am a bit confused about your opinion of wordpress and the ability to manage parts of the site. My experience is that with a little bit of php knowledge you can custimize wordpress sub sections pretty damn well. Page by page editing the same in wordpress as any other CMS, and the only downside is that you are fairly limited in what you can have for each page as far as custom field.

Wikis are ninja se3. No one on WF is certified se3 compliant.

Also, this doesn't belong in STS.

... Yes this is me "Shooting the Shit", so it does belong here. Also I'm looking for something that is SE10 compliant, obviously you haven't been briefed by Matt Cutts yet. Seriously though guerilla would you recommend a wiki like this over a WP blog?

You are 100% fail bro.

First, you try to dickroll someone who was dickrolling noobs before you knew what Bing was.

Second, you are still assuming that you are shit worth talking about in Shooting the Shit.

Go to the design and development forum where questions like this belong. Request a thread move. People are only doing a few things in STS.

1) Trolling
2) Trying to mix with the WF crowd by commenting mindlessly before making a worthwhile marketing contribution to the community
3) Boobs
4) The tragedy that is Karl.
5) Politics
6) Current events that are stranger than fiction.

OK,, it should be pretty clear by now, that

a) NO ONE recommends a wiki for this
b) You might want to move this to another section

Yes, you CAN post anything in STS, but fruitful discussions happen in the other sections.
